Widebody 1970 Ford Mustang "Ruffian" with LS-V8 engine!

The idea of equipping a classic Ford Mustang with the latest technical components and an individual body kit is not entirely new. Here are some tuners such as Prior Design or SpeedKore tried and quite handsome vehicle on its feet. And we too already had an idea what such a conversion could look like. But now we would like to show you another copy that is known as the Widebody 1970 Ford Mustang "Ruffian" from the 2019 SEMA Auto Show. And that's not just one of those widebody Mustangs with screwed-on plastic fender flares, but a vehicle with an all-round aerodynamics package made entirely of metal. The dark green machine is officially called the "Ruffian Mustang" and it is a "normal" Mustang Fastback from 1970. However, with serious modifications by the builder Chris Ashton and his company Ruffian Cars.

The guys from Autotopia have made a detailed tour of the unique piece, the result of which you can see in the 15 minute video embedded below and in particular listen can. We also included a few more videos, including those from the SEMA Auto Show, about the vehicle at the very end of the article. And while many tuners say that you have to invest hundreds of hours for such a body kit, Chris provides the proof that fender flares made of metal can be completed in 40 hours. It didn't take him any longer to create the basis for the massive Signature One forged wheels in the format 19 × 12,5 inches with Toyo Proxes R88R tires in the dimensions 345/30. Incidentally, the look of the vehicle is based on the legendary boss mustangs of the Trans-American Sedan Championship racing series of the late 60s and early 70s and also acts as a so-called daily driver.

So a vehicle that can be used on the road every day. And to ensure that road traffic progresses appropriately, the one-off was surprisingly not given a traditional Coyote V8 swap, but an LS3 V8 with an aluminum block from Blueprint Engines, which delivers an enormous 625 hp to a Magnum T56 six-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels. The "Boss 427" logos on the sides give an indication of the engine and of course the crazy soundscape of the sidepipe sports exhaust system also reveals the huge engine under the hood. The mentioned changes to the body are by far not all the details. Also worth mentioning is the bonnet made entirely of carbon with a central air opening, there is a new front mask with extended headlights and a large three-part aluminum ducktail spoiler lip with adjustable struts is installed at the rear with the striking black taillights. Surprisingly, however, there was no diffuser with large fins for the Mustang. Since the front spoiler, which is also mounted with adjustable struts, does not have an additional spoiler sword, the rear diffuser can be tolerated.

Painted in the Porsche color from 1978

Incidentally, the Ruffian Mustang was wrapped in a dark green from the Porsche shelf from 1978. Considering the accents in black and the carbon bonnet with red stripes, this is a perfect choice, we think. And the cabin has also been spectacularly revised. There is, for example, a specially adapted roll cage, leather-covered bucket seats with sports belts and a sports steering wheel with a wooden rim. The rest of the interior, on the other hand, is almost empty and reduced to the essentials. The soundscape in the cabin should at least correspond to that from outside. In total, Chris Ashton has been building the vehicle for a good 2 years, which he has already bought in a partially modified condition. If we receive timely information on further changes, there is of course an update for this report. You will be informed if you simply use ours Feed subscribe to.
