Mercedes-AMG & Palace Skateboards: Art Cars!

After the successful start of the cooperation between Mercedes‑AMG and the British skateboard and streetwear brand Palace last year, the creative collaboration is now entering the second round. While last year's presentation as part of the 24-hour race on the Nürburgring underlined the motorsport theme of the first joint capsule collection, the focus is now shifting from the racetrack to the streets and the lifestyle of modern cities. This is also emphasized by the four art cars from the Mercedes-AMG product portfolio, which accompany the sales launch of the collection. The individual pieces, each with a very different design, are thematically inspired by the flair of the cosmopolitan cities of London, Los Angeles, New York and Tokyo, the locations of the four Palace flagship stores. The new collection is accompanied by the "Affalterbach to the world" campaign, which, with a good dose of self-irony, puts the rather tranquil homeland of Mercedes-AMG on a par with the four pulsating metropolises.

Exclusivity and an unconventional attitude to life – that is what connects Mercedes‑AMG and the skateboard and streetwear brand Palace, which is doing pioneering work in the sports and fashion world with its aesthetics. In addition, high-performance sports cars and street skateboarding have some fundamental characteristics in common: In both areas, performance and speed are important, adrenaline and coolness form an unbeatable combination. Last year, both companies launched their collaboration with the first co-branded collection of apparel and accessories designed by Palace together with a car brand. The kick-off took place on the occasion of the legendary "24h Nürburgring" race, in which a GT3 of the Mercedes-AMG Team HRT started with vehicle livery designed by Palace.

Now Mercedes‑AMG and Palace Skateboards are continuing the proven combination of stylish clothing and trendy accessories with thematically appropriate and spectacularly designed vehicles. For the launch of the new collection, four Mercedes‑AMG production models were transformed into unique art cars. Palace Skateboards founder Lev Tanju and his design team were inspired by the atmosphere of their flagship store locations: the metropolises of London, Los Angeles, New York and Tokyo. The Art Cars take up motifs that can also be found in the 23-part collection.

The trousers, hoodies, jackets, T-shirts, vests, beanies and caps are stylistically based on the car mechanic look. The collection celebrates this style as everyday fashion that not only serves functionality. With the start of sales on March 25, 2022, 12:00 CET, all pieces will be available in Palace's four flagship stores and online at palaceskateboards.com.

Eye-catching Art Cars from the AMG Performance Studio in Affalterbach

The four Mercedes‑AMG production models that have been transformed into art cars for the new collection are a Mercedes‑AMG A 45 S, a Mercedes‑AMG GT 63 4MATIC+, a Mercedes‑AMG SL 63 4MATIC+ and a Mercedes‑ AMG G 63. They all wear a seven-layer fade paint finish with a color-changing effect. Other common features are the AMG crest and Palace logos, which are distributed over the entire body. The interiors are also characterized by the cool aesthetics that characterize Palace clothing. This includes numerous details, such as the exclusive special colors for the seat upholstery and the door center panels.

Individually designed floor mats, headrests and hand charms with an embossed logo have also been specially designed for this cooperation. LED door projectors, which let the cooperation logo appear on the floor when opened, round off the unmistakable design. The one-offs were painted and individualized in the AMG Performance Studio in Affalterbach. The SL 63 was created as a special body at the Mercedes‑Benz plant in Bremen. The components required for the special paintwork in Affalterbach were discharged and then fed back into the just-in-sequence production process.

Flair of the metropolises as inspiration for the designers

With the design of the four Art Cars, Lev Tanju and his design team pay tribute to the four metropolises of London, Los Angeles, New York and Tokyo and their very own flair. Each vehicle pays tribute to the special features of the city with its title and various artistic details.

  • Mercedes-AMG A 45 S PALACE Edition/"Tiger London": The bold multi-colour paint finish, large white tiger head on the bonnet and large AMG crest on the sides of the car pay homage to the vibrant and diverse UK custom car scene of the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.
  • Mercedes-AMG SL 63 4MATIC+ PALACE Edition/"Sunset LA": With its paintwork changing from strong yellow to deep red, the 2+2-seater roadster stands for the perpetual Californian summer.
  • Mercedes-AMG GT 63 4MATIC+ PALACE Edition/"Neon Fade New York": The color scheme, which changes from black to neon yellow, represents the two sides of the megacity on the Hudson River. "The city that never sleeps" fascinates with the contrast between the rough pavement of some areas and the bright lights of directly neighboring areas.
  • Mercedes-AMG G 63 PALACE Edition/"Space Horse Tokyo": The horse galloping through space on the side of the vehicle pays tribute to the fantasy culture that is so popular in Japan.

Humorous campaign prepares presentation of art cars and collection

Mercedes‑AMG and Palace developed a joint campaign to present the Art Cars and the second joint Capsule Collection. With the ease and self-mockery so typical of Palace, under the slogan "Affalterbach to the world" the "little" Affalterbach is elevated to the rank of a world metropolis - i.e. on a par with London, Los Angeles, New York and Tokyo. The campaign will be played from March 21st to March 25th, 2022.
