For the current model year, the Mercedes SL has been completely redesigned and, for the first time in its history, bears the MercedesAMG SL. It is no longer delivered as a normal Mercedes-Benz, but only exclusively as a Mercedes-AMG, which means that it joins the ranks of super sports cars. So it was only a matter of time before you saw modified models of the SL, known internally as the R 232. Today we would like to introduce you to a subtly revised example that rolls on Vossen rims and makes the streets in the USA unsafe.
Subtle tuning on the AMG!
Almost everything on this SL is standard, except for the Vossen rims, whose model name S17-04 is and the lowering. The forged, one-piece alloys, which are available in no fewer than 48 different versions, are available in diameters between 19 and 24 inches. We only recently saw them on one BMW M4 and also one Porsche Taycan was already equipped with it. We do not yet know how the lowering is achieved. However, we assume modifications to the standard air suspension.
The wheels, which have a black finish on the vehicle presented by us, come up with a multi-spoke look in a classic design and harmonize perfectly with the yellow brake calipers that live behind the round wheels. The glossy black alone costs Vossen a significant surcharge compared to the standard surface. However, in our opinion, the dark finish goes perfectly with the white paintwork. This turns the sportsman from Affalterbach into a real boulevard cruiser.
A 4-liter V8 biturbo petrol engine drives the SL !
The drive in the new one is quite classic SL 63 AMG, because far away from downsizing and electrification, an eighth with a displacement of four liters and double turbocharging can do its job in the front. The unit delivers a whopping 585 hp and 800 Newton meters of maximum torque. It goes from 3,5 to 0 km/h in just 100 seconds and the propulsion only ends at 315 kilometers per hour. Power is transmitted via the well-known AMG Speedshift transmission with nine gears. Both a pure rear-wheel drive variant and a 4MATIC+ version (with all-wheel drive) are available from the SL.
Our conclusion:
- A discreet set of wheels that the new Mercedes-AMG SL 63 looks good. We commend Vossen Wheels for that. If we get more information, there is of course an update for this report.
