The special models Audi RS 6 and RS7 Legacy Edition now reach up to 1.000 PS. According to the motto “If you don't move forward, you go backwards”, ABT Sportsline has recently presented a groundbreaking technology for the RS 6 and RS 7 Legacy Editions introduced. With the innovation, the outstanding 4,0-liter V8 BiTurbo engines (DJPB) can be further optimized from 603 kW (820 hp, V-max 330 km/h) to an insane 736 kW (1.000 hp) and around 1.150 Nm. The state-of-the-art system bears the name IWI. Indirect water/ethanol injection is positioned directly in front of the engine throttle valves. The supplementary injection system is controlled by an electronic control unit specially developed by ABT Sportsline and works in cooperation with the AEC system. Ethanol was considered ideal because of its availability and excellent physical properties.

"With IWI technology, we use the thermodynamic advantages to ensure consistently high performance in such performance ranges. The IWI injection ensures intensive internal cooling of the engine. This enables an increased supply of charge air or oxygen for combustion, which leads to a sustained increase in performance“, Thomas Biermaier, Managing Director of ABT Sportsline, explains the principles of this advanced system.
The innovative IWI system is activated by pressing the RS buttons activated on the steering wheel of the RS 6 LE and RS 7 LE. Holding the RS button for one second in one of the RS modes while driving turns on the additional power. If the IWI system is switched on, the vehicle develops its full performance potential when you accelerate hard.
Redesigned engine parts!
ABT Sportsline has integrated special parts for the increase to 1.000 hp. These include a Carbon air supply system with expanded turbo air openings and fine-tuned Turbochargers. ABT Sportsline also equipped the cars with special ones Intercoolers and larger air intakes in the front. The set also includes forged pistons with reduced compression, more robust connecting rods and piston pins, a Sport catalyst with gasoline particle filter Exhaust system and additional Oil Cooler.
Installation of an additional water/ethanol tank!
The indirect water/ethanol injection (IWI) is carried out by a tank (with a usable volume of 15 liters) in the trunk area fed. The filling connection for the ABT-IWI liquid located next to the standard fuel filler flap. As a rule, a full tank lasts for around 3.000 kilometers, which corresponds to a consumption of 0,5l per 100 kilometers. A sensor monitors the fill level, which is visible both in the myABT app and in the MMI via Apple CarPlay. In addition to a lot of other performance information, the system status and the IWI tank level can also be viewed in the app.
