No, the following pictures do not show any Restomod-Shelby Cobra from the 60's and it's not an older AC Cobra or one of the many kit cars either. In fact, it's a brand new AC Cobra from AC Cars in the UK. Curtain up for the AC Cobra GT Roadster! It was actually announced for December 2022, but apparently the date was chosen a little too optimistically. The new roadster isn't finished yet. And you can see that in the current pictures, which are only so-called renderings acts. However, the full reveal is scheduled for the coming month (April). The oval grille, round headlights, long bonnet and beautifully flared wheel arches show that the new roadster will look like a typical 1960s Cobra. Only a few details such as the large rims, the LED headlights, the modern rear-view mirrors (in body color) or the LED taillights refer to a vehicle from the present.

If you look a little more closely, you can still see other modern accents. The frame of the windshield is significantly stronger than before and the door handles are flush with the body like on a Tesla. In addition, the edges of the fenders and the rocker panels are covered with visible carbon. A third LED brake light can also be seen behind the passenger cell with the large brackets. Although there is no detailed look into the cabin yet, a modern sports steering wheel, carbon bucket seats and a combination of analog and digital displays can be seen. And AC Cars is already revealing the first mechanical details. The vehicle stands on an aluminum spaceframe chassis and has a racing-tuned chassis. However, at 101,2 inches (2,57 m), the wheelbase is slightly longer than the classic from back then.

fat V8 instead of e-nonsense

The highlight is of course under the long hood. Because AC Cars doesn't give the roadster an electric drive, but a supercharged Ford 5,0-liter V8 with a lot of power 654 PS & 780 NM torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic. The approximately 1,5-ton roadster is said to reach country road speed in just 3,4 seconds and a maximum of 278 km/h is possible. The load is braked with a sports brake system. We will (hopefully) know more by April at the latest.

According to AC Cars, the GT Roadster is fully road legal and is currently available to order from buyers around the world. However, prices vary by region and as a reference, keep the (heavy) UK price (£285.000 / approx. €321.464) in mind. If we get more information, there is of course an update for this report.
