The new BMW 8 Series and the new BMW M8 models!

The most beautiful, most exclusive and fastest vehicles of their respective eras traditionally come together at the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance. This year, the renowned classic car show in the north-east of the US state of Florida provided exactly the right setting for the world premiere of particularly fascinating sports cars from the BMW model range. The new edition of the BMW 8 Series and the new BMW M8 models were presented to the public for the first time. In addition, visitors to the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance 2022 experienced the start of the anniversary activities of BMW M GmbH on the occasion of its 50th anniversary.

Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance

The traditional event on the grounds of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and the neighboring Golf Club of Amelia Island was the perfect stage for the new BMW 8 Series to present its precisely developed design and advanced equipment features. The M Sport package is now part of the standard equipment for all model variants of the BMW 8 Series Coupé, the BMW 8 Series Cabriolet and the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupé. The illuminated BMW kidney grille "Iconic Glow" is in the center of the redesigned vehicle front. The eight-cylinder models also come standard with aerodynamically optimized exterior mirrors in the style of the BMW M8.

In the interior of all models of the new BMW 8 Series, the equally dynamic and exclusive character is underlined with standard equipment that has been expanded to include multifunction seats, an M leather steering wheel and other M-specific design features. The standard BMW Live Cockpit Professional with a Control Display that has now grown to 12,3 inches ensures optimized ease of use. “The luxury sports cars of the new BMW 8 Series occupy a prominent position in the BMW model range. We are excited to debut these exceptional models at one of the most prestigious automotive events in America,” said Sebastian Mackensen, Head of BMW Group Region Americas and President & CEO BMW North America.

pioneering models from the past

History and future were combined in the appearance of the BMW M brand at the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance 2022. BMW M GmbH showed groundbreaking models from its past and the versions of its high-performance sports cars for the luxury segment that will be available from spring 2022. The models BMW M8 Competition Coupé, BMW M8 Competition Cabriolet and BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupé are even more impressive with new exterior colors and M light-alloy wheels, the M lights Shadow Line available for the first time and an additional variant for the interior equipment. The operating system of the new BMW M8 models now also includes a 12,3-inch Control Display with touch function.

In addition, the top models in the BMW M GmbH range not only fascinate with the vehement power delivery of their 460 kW/625 hp V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology and high-revving characteristics, but also with an extraordinarily extensive range of standard equipment. It includes, among other things, a flap-controlled M sports exhaust system, BMW laser light headlights, the BMW head-up display with M-specific displays and full Merino/Alcantara leather upholstery.

50 milestones from model and racing history

BMW M GmbH has made a particularly impressive start to its anniversary year with the debut of its current high-performance models for the luxury segment. The subsidiary of the BMW Group, founded in 2022 as BMW Motorsport GmbH, also contributed to the program of the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance 1972 with a fascinating look back at its history. A special exhibition showed 50 milestones from the 50-year model and racing history of BMW M GmbH. This included an early forerunner of the current BMW M8. The prototype of a high-performance sports car with a V1990 engine, developed by BMW M GmbH in the early 8s on the basis of the then BMW 12 Series Coupé, remained a one-off and has now only been shown in the USA for the second time.

The selection of vehicles that were particularly formative for the development of BMW M GmbH also ranged from a freshly restored example of the BMW M1 from 1980, the first independently developed model by the company, to the BMW V1999 that won the 24 12 Hours of Le Mans LMR to the all-electric BMW iX M60, which is about to be launched on the market. Numerous vehicles owned by members of the BMW Car Club of America and from the classic collection of BMW North America were also on display in the unique show of important BMW M models from five decades. "The United States is the world's largest market for BMW M vehicles and we are always amazed and delighted by the passion and dedication that many enthusiasts here put into their cars, old and new," said Franciscus van Meel, CEO of BMW M Ltd. "We consider it a privilege to be able to celebrate our anniversary in this wonderful place, surrounded by special people and extraordinary cars."
