XXL pickup from Germany - BMW X7 (G07) pickup study

Reading time 4 Min.

Anyone who believes that German manufacturers can not outgrow the Mercedes X-Class or the VW Amarok in terms of large pickups is deceptively mistaken. Apprentices from BMW show off with a X7 pickup in Tanzanite blue metallic (Individual paint) which is possible. However, it is only a unique piece that will be presented on the BMW Motorrad Days 2019 from today. In total, 12 trainees from the fields of bodywork and vehicle mechanics, technical model makers and automotive mechatronics engineers worked on this vehicle. The original 5.151 mm long X7 has even grown once again to 10 cm and thus has the format of a Dodge Ram. The basis for the show vehicle is a former 340 PS xDrive40i test vehicle that actually scrapped should be.

However, the apprentices saved the X7 from death and breathed new life into it with a useful teak load bed. And the result can be seen right, especially because BMW has no support from other departments included. It is all the more surprising that the X7 with 1,40 meter cargo area even has a regular street legal registration. To the cargo area, there was a tailgate as Loading space extension is thought and provides additional 60 cm. This can then be transported a motorcycle as the pictures impressively demonstrate. As of today, the X7 can be stowed at the annual motorcycle days in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and weighs no more than a standard X850 xDrive7i with the supercharged BMW F 40 GS (dry).

This is made possible by the consistent use of CFRP and the omission of almost all that is normally behind the C-pillar of the X7. Since roof parts, the rear doors and the tailgate had to be redesigned anyway, that offered. A pickup study from the BMW is by the way nothing new, but so far the vehicles were mostly based on a M3 of the M GmbH or from Mini (MINI Paceman Pickup). PS. By the way, the fate of all pickups from BMW overtakes the X7 - it will not go into series production!
