1of1 – the 2023 Bugatti Chiron Profilée (W16)

The Bugatti Chiron Profilée is a real solitaire - a one-off in the Chiron family - developed as a less radical interpretation of the Pur Sport, with a unique character and design and unique details. Since all production slots for the Chiron have already been taken, the Profilée auction on February 1, 2023 in Paris is the last opportunity to acquire another creation from the Bugatti Atelier in Molsheim powered by the W16 engine. With the Chiron Pur Sport, the most extreme personality from the Chiron family to date was presented to the world in 2020. With a 183 cm wide, permanently mounted rear wing, shorter gear ratios, lightweight magnesium rims and a multitude of other innovations, the Pur Sport was specially designed for cornering.

Although it sold out quickly, some customers asked whether a Chiron model could be developed that combined the timeless elegance of the first Chiron² with the sporty character of the Pur Sport. That was the birth of the Profilée. "Because we take our customers' wishes seriously, we set out to find out what a less radical version of the Pur Sport could look like and started designing and developing the Chiron Profilée in autumn 2020," explains Christophe Piochon, President of Bugatti Automobiles .

“By the time the pre-series vehicle rolled off the production line, all of the 500 limited Chiron vehicles had been sold. However, we quickly realized that this model was too beautiful to hide. It is a genuine Bugatti in every respect and a unique collector's item from Bugatti's automotive history. And since we really wanted to give every Bugatti lover a fair chance to acquire this unique piece, we decided to auction it at RM Sotheby's."

It's not often that manufacturers invest time and effort in developing a vehicle into production, knowing that only one example can be built. But that's exactly how it was with the Profilée, it was developed and tested to the end. It met all the high quality standards that Bugatti sets for each of its vehicles and has received single type approval for Europe. The special design of the Profilée, with its short, elegant, curved rear wing, fulfills two essential functions:

Firstly, the rear wing provides stability and control at top speeds of up to 380 km/h by increasing downforce on the rear axle, and secondly, the vacuum is used to extract the hot air from the engine compartment via two housings under the heat-resistant carbon wing. The air then flows over the wing to generate downforce and under the wing to suck air out of the engine compartment.

Frank Heyl, Bugatti Deputy Design Director, explains: “To accommodate the customer's request, we designed an elegantly curved, fixed rear wing that was aerodynamically and thermodynamically optimized for the incomparable range of performance of the Chiron Profilée, while at the same time retaining the graceful and timeless form of the Chiron. The name "Profilée" is a reminiscence of one of Jean Bugatti's first creations, the Type 46, which also had an elegantly curved rear end."

The front of this unique hyper sports car received wider air intakes and an enlarged horseshoe-shaped Bugatti grille to channel more air through the radiator. A revised front splitter and aerodynamic underbody further maximize downforce and airflow. As with every Bugatti, mastery of airflow in terms of cooling, drag reduction and downforce is fundamental to the extraordinary performance that has become the hallmark of modern Bugattis.

Much of the Pur Sport's character has been retained with the Profilée, with its lateral grip and ultimate acceleration. It is powered by the same 1.500 hp version of the Bugatti W16 engine, with gear ratios 15 percent shorter than the Chiron Sport³. The Profilée accelerates from 2,3 to 0 km/h in 100 seconds and from 5,5 to 0 km/h in 200 seconds. It has a top speed of 380 km/h, the Chiron Pur Sport is 350 km/h.

The wheel camber on the front and rear axles was changed on the chassis and harder springs were installed with a front-heavy balance. The springs are ten percent harder than on the Chiron Sport. The rear axle has a camber increased by 50 percent, which provides better grip in corners without compromising driving comfort. This makes the Profilée a combination of the optimal driving characteristics of the Pur Sport with an elegant, beautiful design.

Exterior color of the Profilée in "Argent Atlantique"

The Profilée's exterior color is Argent Atlantique, which was developed exclusively for this model. No other Chiron was painted in this color. The lower body part is in visible carbon from "Bleu Royal Carbon". The rims are also unique: they were specially designed, manufactured and tested for the Profilée. They are painted in 'Le Patron' colour, developed to match the carbon tone of the lower body. The polished aluminum elements reflect the famous horseshoe-shaped Bugatti grille.

Handcrafted in the Bugatti Atelier in Molsheim, the Profilée's cockpit is familiar to Chiron owners. The components, made from authentic and high-quality materials such as leather, carbon or solid aluminium, have all been worked out and refined in hours of manual work. The design follows a minimalist philosophy, with each piece reduced to its simplest and most beautiful form.

The Profilée was also used for the first time in a Chiron braided leather on the dashboard, in the door panels and the center console. A total of over 2.500 meters of leather strips were processed for this elaborately manufactured and beautiful material. The comfort seats of the Profilée are upholstered in "Gris Rafale" leather on the outside and in "Deep Blue" leather on the inside, and refined with the "Air Parade" quilting pattern. The Profilée lettering is embedded in a black anodized frame in the center console - a final special touch for this unique creation. The Bugatti Chiron Profilée will be auctioned by RM Sotheby's on February 1st. A percentage of the proceeds are donated to charity.
