CUPBucket: you've never seen a seat like this!

The CUPRA Formentor VZ5 is a vehicle that you simply have to feel when driving, ”explains Jordi Gené, CUPRA development driver, about the 287 kW (390 PS) * exclusive model. He is pleased that he was able to help design the limited edition of 7.000 vehicles. The CUPRA Formentor VZ5 has its origins unmistakably in racing. It makes the road tangible - and this is not least due to its newly developed, racing-inspired CUPBucket seats.

Carbon fiber for expressive details

The new CUPBucket seats were developed exclusively for the CUPRA Formentor VZ5 and bring the dynamics and aesthetics of a racing car to a road vehicle. “The seat is the driver's first point of contact with the vehicle; the driver feels the road through it. Our CUPBucket seats transmit all these impressions and emotions that arise through contact with the road ", explains Marta Almuni, Head of Technology at CUPRA. The sportiness of the bucket seats is underlined by expressive details such as the back made of carbon fiber or the high-quality surrounds in the middle of the backrest.

Geometric design for the best lateral support

For the most immersive driving experience possible, attention was paid to the best lateral support. For this, the CUPRA engineers brought in the two experienced racing drivers Jordi Gené and Mattias Ekström. They also received support from the experts at Sabelt, which specializes in the development and production of high-performance seats for road vehicles and racing cars. The teams worked together on developing and fine-tuning the seats.

"We carried out many test drives in different environments in order to find the optimal foam for the best lateral support"says Gené. He let his experience flow in to make the road even more noticeable through the new seats. For a real racing car feeling in the road vehicle, the driver is optimally embedded and supported in the CUPBucket seat from the legs to the shoulders. "This ensures the best lateral support in curves - the driver can fully concentrate on the road and on driving", explains Almuni.

Sportiness combined with comfort

In order for the desired emotions to be aroused while driving, a seat must meet a number of properties: “And our CUPBucket seat fulfills them all: design, functionality, feeling and the ability to adapt to the respective body shape and size. Racing seats are usually made to hug the body of a particular driver like a glove. Here we were faced with the challenge of developing a seat that is comfortable and provides support for many different drivers ", reveals Almuni. The engineers also wanted to ensure that getting in and out of the car was as easy as possible without compromising the sporty design. To do this, they analyzed the geometry of the lines of the CUPRA Formentor VZ5 and carried out tests with drivers of different sizes.

Maximum adaptability.

The different areas of the CUPBucket seat are differently hard or soft. The lower side area is firmer to give the driver more support; the backrest and the upper side area are more flexible in order to maximize seating comfort and adaptability. "Due to the different properties of the foam in each contact zone, we were able to achieve the best possible adaptation to the human body as well as very dynamic properties", says Jesús Alonso, the engineer who was involved in the development of the CUPBucket seats.

attention to detail

Sportiness and sophistication go hand in hand with the CUPRA Formentor VZ5. This is also noticeable in the design of the interior. The CUPRA brand attaches great importance to equipment elements that are perfectly coordinated - this is also the case with the CUPBucket seats: their elegant nappa leather in the colors Black Soul and Petrol Blue harmonises with the breathable materials used for the seat. The deeply embossed surfaces, visible seams and micro-perforations additionally reinforce the high-quality look of these exclusive bucket seats.
