E-Duo: Land Rover Defender with Tesla electric drive!

Electrical conversions based on classic vehicles are nothing new. It even applies to one Defender. After all, we already have it from ECD & ECC as "E-Lander" seen under power. Nevertheless, we don't want to withhold the video by Matt Watson from CarWow, which is embedded below. Because Matt is testing two electric Defenders put through their paces to see if the six-figure price is justified. The Defender Duo has one per vehicle Electric motor They are installed in the middle and under the bonnet and in the trunk Batteries from a Tesla Model S 100D housed. Thanks to the batteries, the weight distribution is still the same as with the normal Defender. There are one on board electric power steering , and a electric brake booster, and both components require far fewer maintenance intervals than the corresponding components in a combustion engine.

Both the Specter-Style Defender from 2010 as well as the Defender 'Doris‚, Which is based on a Defender from 1996, come with us as an electric car 450 PS and 450 Nm torque therefore. That is of course an announcement. And the two climbers can also be seen visually.

The Specter makes unmistakable on James Bond Defender and carries extras like one winch, a big bullbar, wider Wheel arches, a roof rack and Roll cage as well as a powerful one Off-road tires around with you. The modern interior has Sports seats with leather cover there and space for five people. And since there is no gear stick at the front, because the gears are changed by means of a button, there is even more room present in the cabin. The other side of the coin, however, is the price of good 208.000 US Dollars and the empty weight of full 2.600 kg

Doris has a full 2.000 kg empty weight

And what's more, the range of just 150 miles (240 km) is also rather meager. And the Doris Defender? It shows itself with a minimalist retro look including new ones Headlights, there are simple ones Aluminum aprons and not really much else. And that also applies to the cabin. You have a lot of space for up to five people, but the interior is just as simple. Crazy that "Doris" anyway 2.000 kg empty weight brings along and at the same time a purchase price of $ 174.000 US dollars calls at a range of 320 km. The acceleration to 100 km / h is just as short as the range. Doris does it in just one 3,95 seconds.
