DS Automobiles presents the first pictures and information of the new model - the DS 4. The compact class model represents a new generation of Parisian avant-garde and is the brand's fourth independent model to follow the DS 7 Crossback, the DS 3 Crossback and the DS 9 In the strategically important C-Premium segment, the DS 4 in the three versions DS 4, DS 4 Cross and DS 4 Performance Line provides numerous innovations. With its special proportions and the puristic interior design, the new creation by the premium brand combines Parisian craftsmanship and the most advanced technologies. It is the first DS model built in Germany and is based on a further development of the EMP2 platform. The DS 4 is “Designed in Paris, Made in Germany” and embodies the perfect symbiosis of German precision work and Parisian luxury savoir-faire. The market launch of the DS 4 is planned for the end of the year.
Noble compact with SUV touch
DS Automobiles has growing market shares worldwide. With the unveiling of the DS 4, the premium brand is now pushing ahead with its development. The DS 4 is built in Rüsselsheim and combines German precision and the special expertise of DS Automobiles in terms of Parisian luxury savoir-faire - "Designed in Paris, Made in Germany". In the C premium segment, the fourth independent model of the Parisian brand stands out in particular through the combination of sophistication and ultra-modern technologies. With the three versions - DS 4, DS 4 Cross and DS 4 Performance Line - the new model is aimed at fans of classic compact sedans as well as lovers of attractive SUV coupés.

Charismatic exterior design - the way to Aero Sport Lounge
The DS 4 stands for extraordinary proportions. With a width of 1,83 meters, 720 millimeter wheels (with rims up to 20 inches), a compact length of 4,40 meters and a roof height of 1,47 meters, the DS 4 gives off an impressive appearance.
"Even before the first pencil stroke, we worked with our engineers on the design of the technical platform for two years. When we started the creative process, we had a lot of leeway to implement a new concept. Inspired by the concept car DS Aero Sport Lounge, the silhouette is unique in the segment with unprecedented proportions. The contour of the vehicle is sporty, very muscular, compact and sits on very large wheels. The DS 4 is aerodynamic, efficient and charismatic at the same time." The front is marked with a new light signature. With the DS Matrix LED Vision headlights, LED daytime running lights and the DS wings, the front section is a real eye-catcher. The diamond pattern and the three-dimensional radiator grille go perfectly with the elongated bonnet and make the silhouette look even more dynamic overall.
The exterior design combines flowing and sharp lines. The flush door handles go hand in hand with sculptural surfaces on the sides. The relationship between the body and the large wheels comes from the DS Aero Sport Lounge vehicle concept and shows an imposing and unique presence. At the rear, the roof extends deep over the steeply sloping rear window, which is decorated with enamel using the screen printing process. This gives the silhouette both style and aerodynamics. The rear fenders have a muscular appearance with curves and sharp edges on the body and emphasize the C-pillar, which is painted glossy black and has an embedded DS Automobiles emblem. The new generation of the light signature is shown at the rear with a laser-engraved scale effect. There are seven exterior colors available for the DS 4, including three new ones: copper-gold, silk-gray, and velvet-red. The four tried and tested colors from DS Automobiles are: Crystal Gray, Perla Nera Black, Platinum Gray and Mother of Pearl White.
Three versions - three characters
DS 4 - The classic one
The DS 4, the heart of the series, is dominated by elegance thanks to its design with special bumpers, subtle chrome accents and a roof in contrasting black. It is aimed primarily at lovers of the classic compact sedan.
DS 4 Cross - For explorers
Based on the silhouette of the DS 4, the DS 4 Cross is aimed more at fans of the SUV silhouette. The visual perception as an SUV is achieved through various modifications: thanks to glossy black side window frames, a roof painted in the vehicle color, a glossy black radiator grille and distinctive wheels, the DS 4 Cross stands out from the compact sedan and gains its own face. The additional roof rails make the DS 4 Cross look even higher. In addition, the lower part of the bumpers is highlighted by a special protection and a matt black tint. As an exclusive option, the DS 4 Cross can be equipped with Advanced Traction Control for improved traction, with sand, snow and mud mode and hill descent aid.
DS 4 Performance Line - The sporty one
The DS 4 Performance Line is even more dynamic in comparison. In addition to an exclusive interior - including a forged carbon insert on the steering wheel - it has a black exterior finish and striking rims with the carmine-red hubcaps that are typical of Performance Line.
Puristic interior design
The interior of the DS 4 combines sophistication and technology with different types of leather, Clous de Paris Guilloche, Alcantara, forged carbon, wood and innovative manufacturing techniques. The DS 4 has a digital, flowing and ergonomic interior with intuitive integration of all elements - both in function and in style. The puristic design is elegant and practical at the same time. The redistribution of the controls takes driving comfort to a new level.
The Clous de Paris Guilloche, which is inspired by the high art of watchmaking, characterizes and refines various areas:
- The "sword" on the dashboard: The chrome-plated design element, which has the shape of a horizontally lying sword, combines the controls for the air conditioning and the innovative, almost invisible ventilation system DS Air.
- The control elements of the window lifters, which are coordinated with the integrated side ventilation slots and can now be found in the vehicle doors.
- The combination of DS SmartTouch, a 5-inch touchscreen that works with the DS Iris system connected, and the DS E toggle, a compact control for the automatic transmission, which is positioned on the center console.
A special feature in the interior of the DS 4 are the new types of seats. The upholstery made of grained leather in stone gray raises well-being to a new level. The novel morphology of the seats is the result of many years of research and has been tested, among other things, in the concept cars from DS Automobiles. The design is based on a seat shell that creates a new comfort zone. The extended seat, the high-density foam and the innovative structure of the casing offer an unprecedented, comfortable sitting experience.
The interior concept of the DS 4 is based on two pillars: comfort and function. In the area of comfort, emphasis is placed on qualitative materials and special haptics. The functional area was designed primarily for the perfect interplay of details and cognitive interaction.
The interior of the DS 4 is optionally available in two colors and is in the versions Trocadero and Rivoli offered. The vehicle's comfort zone extends over the stone gray leather seats and the lower area of the interior. The comfortable new seat shells are made of grained leather and elements with Clous de Paris Guilloche surround. The upper area of the interior is dedicated to the functional aspects and is decorated with brown ash wood and high-quality Criollo brown nappa leather.
The interior is true to the heritage of the brand Opera sophisticatedly designed with seats made of nappa leather in criollo brown and bracelet finish. Brown ash wood decors and large nappa leather in criollo brown complete the luxurious appearance.
Harmony in the interior
The harmonious interior atmosphere is additionally enhanced by the indirect, individually adjustable ambient lighting. The 690 watt sound system from provides the acoustic ambience Focal with 14 speakers and acoustic side windows - another premiere in this segment.
An air purification system actively protects the cockpit with sensors for PM2,5 particles in the interior and for the detection of contamination in the exterior. The regulation of the air flowing into the vehicle is optimized by an additional filter system that can clean the air in the interior in just a few minutes. The quality of the air is continuously analyzed and the information is displayed on the central screen.
Highest craftsmanship
In the DS 4, the master upholsterers from DS Automobiles were able to apply all their know-how: Closed seams underline the quality of the leather on the door panels. This is one of numerous interior elements that involve hand-made processes. This also includes the choice of brown ash wood decor and the complex manufacture of the leather steering wheel.
In the Performance Line version, the dynamism is particularly emphasized by the Alcantara decorations on the dashboard, the door panels and the entire center console. In addition, the seats are made of high-density basalt wickerwork with Alcantara, with specific gold and crimson embroidery and stitching as well Clous de Paris Guilloche is provided. The steering wheel features a unique piece of forged carbon on the lower spoke.
"SustaiNobility" - sustainability and fine materials
The DS 4 consists of 95% reusable materials and 85% recyclable parts. 30% of the built-in parts consist of renewable or recycled materials, divided into metals and polymers. The DS 4 contains a total of 28 kilograms of recycled plastic. The dashboard is made of 20% hemp, especially in the invisible part. Among the recycled materials, polypropylene, polyester fibers and elastomer are used under the chassis as deflectors, noise dampers or supports. Head designer Thierry Métroz calls this combination of luxury and environmental awareness 'sustaiNoble': sustainable and classy at the same time.
Technical know-how in the bike sector
With a wheel size of 720 mm, the DS 4 offers rims up to 20 inches. At the center of the range are the 19-inch rims, for which various Michelin tires are offered. A “Tall & Narrow” offer was developed to minimize aerodynamic drag that CO2-Reducing emissions while maintaining the attractive design and exceptional comfort. For the first time, the DS 4 will also be available with 19-inch 3PMSF class A all-weather tires. The 20-inch rims, which are only offered for the E-Tense versions, are fitted with Goodyear Class A tires, a first in this size. The high level of dynamism is achieved by a 10% reduction in rim mass (ie 1,5 kg per wheel) with aerodynamic inserts to reduce fuel consumption and CO2-Emissions supported.
Motor Range - Advanced E-Tense Technology
As a two-time Formula E champion in 2019 and 2020, DS Automobiles is a pioneer in terms of electrification. The new version of the EMP2 platform was designed to accommodate a new generation of plug-in hybrid powertrains without sacrificing space. A turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 133 kW (180 PS, 300 Nm) is combined with an electric motor with 81 kW (110 PS, 320 Nm) and an e-EAT8 gearbox, resulting in a total output of 165 kW (225 PS, 360 Nm) results in (weighted fuel consumption, combined in l / 100 km: 1,5-1,2; CO2-Emissions in g / km: 35-28 *). The DS 4 is powered by a more efficient battery with new, more compact, larger-capacity cells that are located behind the deformable support and allow a range of more than 50 kilometers in emission-free operation (WLTP). The battery capacity is 12,4 kW / h.
In addition, the following petrol and diesel engines are available:
- PureTech 130: Combined fuel consumption in l / 100 km: 6,8-5,8; CO2-Emissions combined in g / km: 154-131 *
- PureTech 180: Combined fuel consumption in l / 100 km: 7,4-6,4; CO2-Emissions combined in g / km: 167-145 *
- PureTech 225: Combined fuel consumption in l / 100 km: 7,4-6,4; CO2-Emissions combined in g / km: 168-146 *
- BlueHDi 130: Combined fuel consumption in l / 100 km: 5,5-4,6; CO2-Emissions combined in g / km: 144-121 *
All models are only equipped with 8-speed automatic transmissions. The sales start of the DS 4 is planned for the fourth quarter of 2021.
Diverse technological innovations
Whether the completely redesigned infotainment system DS Iris or DS Extended Head Up Display, which sets standards by projecting important driving information onto the road using augmented reality - the DS 4 has driving aids that have never been seen before in the C premium segment.
