The brand became known Aston Martin as a producer of GTs, sports cars and one or the other sporty sedan. An SUV is also part of the offer. But who remembers the trip to the market for small carthat the company dared ten years ago? At that time, the further development of a Toyota IQ with its own front apron and luxurious interior resulted in the Aston Martin Cygnet Widebody with V8. Instead of the targeted 4.000 pieces, however, only sold 593 copies. But the Cygnet wasn't the only car of its size Aston Martin participated in. As early as 1980, the carmaker tried a similar project, this time the base vehicle came from the British Leyland Group and was MG Meter called. And although the Aston Martin logo was denounced on the rear, the brand was not mentioned in the name of the converted car. The stern was marked by the lettering "Tickford" embossed. Tickford was a body shop!

Sportiness as the main feature!

The Tickford lettering on the side plaques directly behind the front wheels was supplemented by the Logo from Aston Martin. Tickford took over Development, from design and Construction the extension parts for the body. The redesign of the interior was also left to Tickford, making it a clad in high-quality leather Steering wheel, dashboard and Seats received.

Carpets from Wilton, a graphic Equalizer von Uher, a Sunroof, Cruise Control and electronic controls completed the interior. On the outside created a complete body kit with Rocker panels, extensions the fender and adapted to it purse the sportier appearance. Alloy wheels , and a Sunroof as well as four Marchal fog lights under the front bumper were also part of the equipment.

Technical realignment of sports

The collaboration between Frazer and Aston Martin resulted in an improved version of the four-cylinder engine from the MG Metro. Thanks sharp Camshaft, Double carburetors from Weber, and a flow-optimized cylinder head with bigger ones Valves produced the 1,3 liter engine 80 PS and thus 12 HP more than the basic Metro model. Only the Metro Turbo came with 95 PS technically for even more performance. By combining it with a sports suspension received the Frazer Tickford Metro excellent driving behavior. But the base price of £ 11.600 prevented success. Competitive models like the Reliant Scimitar GTE or Ford Granada 2.8i you got for it, too, during the Porsche 944 cost even less. Therefore, a total of only 26 copies built, three Models built for the US market were given a left-hand drive.
