SUV models are all the rage around the world. Hardly a day goes by without a new (pseudo) off-road vehicle that is supposed to attract customers. Above all, the VW Group is launching one SUV after the other, so that one already has the feeling that the namesake could run out of names for the various models. Of course, the recently founded entry-level brand of the VW Group also has the name Jetta hears, and has an emblem that looks suspiciously like the Dacia logo, only rotated 90 degrees, several such models in the program. The bread-and-butter model called Jetta VS5, which according to our information is based on the MQB platform, which also houses various other group models, is the first model of the still young brand that we are introducing to you here. Of course, not as a production version, but modified, just as it should be for an adequate tuning model.

Exhibit with attraction.

The Jetta VS5, which will be exhibited at Auto Guangzhou 2020, has an eye-catching racing foil including the start number 5 as a visual highlight on the exterior. In addition, the car is lowered with the help of a coilover kit and has shiny black rims from the OEM shelf of the VW group. The vehicle is mainly used as an advertising vehicle, which is supposed to further boost the already dazzling sales of the relatively fresh brand. It is not for nothing that the driver and passenger side are advertised with German DNA and VW quality. The start number 5 is supposed to be a homage to the model name VS5, there is no other way of explaining the choice of the number that is emblazoned above the two rear fenders. At the front a small but fine detail has been changed, namely the tow hooks, which is painted in red, and in racing style, and at the rear of the compact SUV surprises with a central exhaust pipe. Apart from the rally-style foiling, a couple of large mud flaps and an air scoop on the roof, not too much has been changed on the body, but no stone is left unturned in the interior, and we will now describe this interior to you in more detail.

Completely stripped racing car style interior.

First of all, you don't even know where to look because the entire cockpit has been modified and stripped. Sparco racing bucket seats with six-point belts, the complete waiver of insulation material on the doors and in the floor area, as well as the expansion of all infotainment systems and the automatic air conditioning, provide a real racing car feeling. A removable sports steering wheel without an airbag and the removal of the entire back seat in favor of a silver roll cage also help to make this Jetta VS5 feel like being in a cup racer with an elevated seating position. The trunk lining also had to give way to save weight, and the gear lever of the manual five-speed gearbox is reminiscent of the H manual transmissions of bygone DTM times. We even have a roll cage installed? Should the VS5 take part in a rally? It would be possible.

The engine, however, remained completely standard.

The Jetta SUV is powered by a 1,4-liter TSI petrol engine with 150 hp and 250 Newton meters of maximum torque. The engine called EA288 also does its job in various other group models and should help the VS5 to achieve respectable performance. The power is transmitted to the front wheels via the five-speed manual transmission mentioned above.

The conclusion to this show car:

With the exhibit, the VW Group has shown that it is serious about its entry-level brand and that it would like to put it in the limelight in an effective way in order to (initially only) give Chinese automakers a large piece of the pie in the low-budget segment in the Middle Kingdom to decrease. If you've tasted blood now, we can offer you a picture gallery of the vehicle, which we have attached to the article at the end.
