Kia Stinger model year 2021: new look and 370 PS / 510 NM!

Kia is making its strongest horse in the stable fit for the future: The Kia Stinger sports sedan will be presented for the 2021 model year with numerous new assistance systems and large-format map navigation including the UVO Connect online services. In addition, the luxurious interior has been further refined with new details and materials and there are also small but striking modifications to the exterior design. Since the introduction of the modern Gran Turismo at the end of 2017, around 10.000 units have been sold across Europe, including almost 3.000 in Germany. By far the most popular version in this country was the GT model with a 3,3-liter V6 turbo gasoline engine, all-wheel drive and full equipment as standard. In future, the manufacturer will therefore only be offering the 4,83-meter-long sports sedan in this top version. The Kia Stinger 3.3 T-GDI AWD GT develops 370 hp (272 kW), mobilizes a maximum torque of 510 Nm, is equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission and sprints to 4,9 km / h in 100 seconds. This makes it the previous one fastest Kia in Europe. The new model year can be ordered from the fourth quarter of this year.

Online navigation and vehicle tracking

The new navigation system with the 26 cm (10,25 inch) touchscreen enables multiple Bluetooth connections. This means that two mobile devices can be combined with the system at the same time, one for hands-free phone calls or for multimedia purposes, the other exclusively for multimedia use. The screen can also be subdivided using the split-screen function in order to use different functions at the same time, whereby the sub-areas can be configured individually with widgets. The infotainment system offers a smartphone interface (Android Auto ™, Apple CarPlay ™) and voice control of many vehicle functions from the air conditioning to the settings of the navigation and audio system.

Kia Live and the Kia UVO app

The UVO Connect online services combined with the navigation system include the Kia Live service and the Kia UVO app. Kia Live offers, among other things, particularly precise, cloud-based online navigation, real-time traffic information, weather forecasts, the display of parking spaces and online voice recognition. The UVO app can be used, for example, to send planned routes to the Kia Stinger's navigation system, determine the vehicle's location, or continue navigating the “last mile” outside the vehicle using a smartphone.

Camera view into blind spots, motorway assistant and exit warning

The new assistance technologies include the active blind spot assistant with monitor display (Blind Spot View Monitor, BVM), which gives the driver a direct view of the blind spots behind the vehicle. As soon as the indicator is activated, the images from the side cameras integrated in the exterior mirrors appear on the 17,8 cm (7 inch) color display between the analogue round instruments in the cockpit. Another new feature is the Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA), which not only recognizes a signposted speed limit, but also offers the option of automatically transferring it to the cruise control system. The traffic jam assistant (Lane Follow Assist, LFA), which keeps the Kia Stinger in the middle of its lane, ensures relaxed driving in heavy traffic. When the adaptive cruise control system is activated, it also orientates itself on the traffic ahead and takes over both steering and acceleration and braking. The new Highway Driving Assist (HDA) can also automatically include speed limits that have been registered by the speed assistant. The Safe Exit Warning (SEW), which warns the occupants of approaching vehicles or bicycles when the doors are opened, ensures more safety when stationary. And the new occupant alarm (Rear Occupant Alert, ROA) detects whether something is moving in the locked vehicle, if there are still children or pets there, for example. If this is the case, the system also notifies the driver via the UVO app.

Many of the Kia Stinger's assistance systems have had their functionality expanded. The Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (FCA) recognizes not only vehicles and pedestrians, but also cyclists and also prevents collisions with oncoming vehicles when turning left at intersections. The active Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) is no longer based only on lane markings, but also recognizes the edges of the road and, if the vehicle leaves the lane unintentionally, slightly counter-steers in order to keep the Kia Stinger in the lane. The previous lane change assistant has been expanded to become an active blind spot assistant (Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist, BCA). If the driver tries to change lanes when there is a risk of a collision despite a warning from the system, the assistant automatically applies the brakes.

The rear cross traffic warning system (Rear CrossTraffic Collision Avoidance Assist, RCCA) now also has an emergency braking function. If it is activated and a vehicle crosses the path of the Kia Stinger when reversing out of driveways or parking spaces, the system automatically applies the brakes. The Driver Attention Warning (DAW) now works at higher speeds (up to 210 km / h) and also monitors the driver's attention even in stationary traffic: if he does not react when the vehicle in front starts moving, a warning is given. And finally, the adaptive cruise control system can now also include navigation information and thus adjust the speed early on before bends or coasts.

Sharpened rear design, stylish new interior details and seat covers

Outwardly, the revised Kia Stinger differs from the previous model, especially in the rear view. The redesigned taillights, which stretch across the entire width of the vehicle and subtly emphasize the spoiler integrated in the trunk lid, give the sports sedan a characteristic light signature. The indicators consist of ten LED spots, the arrangement of which is inspired by the pattern of checkered flags in racing. The light signature has also been sharpened at the front by redesigning the LED headlights and LED daytime running lights. The 19-inch alloy wheels have also been redesigned.

The lavish luxury interior of the sporty touring limousine has been further enhanced with stylish innovations. In the cockpit, the noble metal surface of the lower steering wheel spoke corresponds to the new chrome surround of the instrument unit. Like the surround of the navigation system, their side panels are now glossy black. The new aluminum surface of the center console also contributes to the sporty, elegant flair. The self-dimming interior rearview mirror is now frameless and thus also sets a fresh, modern accent. And new, adjustable ambient lighting offers a choice of 64 colors and gives the interior an individual touch.

The Kia Stinger GT has black nappa leather upholstery as standard (seat contact surfaces in nappa leather, combined with high-quality man-made leather). The seat covers and door panels are also optionally available in dark red. Another option will be added with the 2021 model year: black suede trim with contrasting red stitching that also adorns the door panels and the dashboard, as well as red seat belts. And since the standard equipment from the Harman / Kardon Premium Sound System with 15 speakers to the electrically adjustable, ventilated front seats leaves little to be desired, the optional equipment list only includes a glass roof with an electric sliding glass roof as an additional element.
