The Lamborghini Miura SV, the last further development of the successful P400 project, was presented to the public 50 years ago at the Lamborghini stand at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1971. At the same time, at the Carrozzeria Bertone stand next to it, the Countach LP 500 celebrated its debut, which should be groundbreaking for future production. The Miura SV, where “V” stands for “veloce” (fast), should join the S version. However, in view of its resounding success on the market after a short period of time, it completely suppressed it.

Lamborghini Miura SV

The Miura SV is the most sought-after series-production old-timer from Lamborghini on the market today and is considered the ultimate among all Miura versions produced. No other vehicle embodies the “supercar” concept of its time in such perfection. Even the engineers Giampaolo Dallara and Paolo Stanzani, the then technical managers at Lamborghini and the fathers of the Miura and Miura S, confirmed that the SV version had benefited from the experience gained in the first five years of production of the Miura.

The SV engine delivers even more power with 385 hp at 7850 rpm and, thanks to a higher, differently distributed torque (1 kgm at 40,7 rpm), even better drivability. Also new is the setting of the four 5750IDL1C triple carburettors from Weber. In the course of production, a separate lubrication system was introduced for the engine and gearbox, a change that is barely visually visible but technically extremely important.

SV differs from the Miura P400 and P400 S

The Miura SV differs significantly from its sister models Miura P400 and P400 S, both technically and stylistically. Despite its generally identical structure with a transversely installed, 4-liter 12-cylinder mid-engine, the SV has a stiffer frame and reinforced in some key areas, as well as a revised rear suspension with a new shape of the handlebars and a track that is almost 130 mm larger on. In this version it has front and rear tires with different dimensions. The 7 to 9 inch rear rims are fitted with 255 mm wide tires and have a revised, even sportier look. The gold version is most popular and so the majority of the Miura SV produced are presented with this equipment variant.

Due to the technical modifications, the forms of the Miura have also been revised. Marcello Gandini, who was in charge of the original Miura, was again responsible for this. The SV impresses with its wider rear fenders, redesigned rear lights and a front flap with a brand new air inlet for the radiator.

The most important aesthetic change of the Miura SV can be found on the front flap, namely the missing "eyelashes" around the headlights, which had become famous. This change had no technical reasons, but was specifically requested by Ferruccio Lamborghini. He knew exactly how complex and time-consuming the assembly and the perfect finish of the eyelashes were, and he really wanted to reduce the production times of the Miura. With his own Miura SV, however, he did not want to do without the headlight eyelashes and so it is the only one with the flirtatious look today.

upgraded interior in SV

Compared to its predecessors, the interior of the SV has a new, even more elegant look, which is characterized in particular by the larger-scale use of leather in the panels and various chrome elements.

The specified top speed of the Miura SV is over 290 km / h, a kilometer is unwound from a standstill in less than 24 seconds - absolute top values for the time. After 150 copies were produced, production of the Miura SV was discontinued in early 1973. A last copy was expressly requested by Walter Wolf in 1975 and is now in Mudetec.

With the Miura SV, an era is clearly coming to an end in which speed and flowing lines set the tone. A unique time in which a small group of young men, driven by an innate passion and technically highly competent, were able to realize what for many then and now is the most beautiful series vehicle ever produced.

Lamborghini Polo Historico

The Lamborghini Polo Storico department, established in 2015, has the task of preserving the history of Automobili Lamborghini. The restoration and certification of all Lamborghini vehicles produced up to 2001 are the most important tasks of the Polo Storico. This also includes the replication of spare parts for historical Lamborghini models as well as the maintenance and management of the archive - all activities that contribute to the best possible preservation of classic Lamborghini vehicles.
