Sharing is caring: the future of private peer-to-peer mobility with MINI sharing.

The traditional British brand MINI is setting new standards in shared mobility. With MINI Sharing and the new MINI Sharing app that goes with it, the premium manufacturer is expanding its pioneering role in this area. Since March 1, 2021, customers from Germany and the Netherlands have been able to share their MINI with family and friends easily, quickly and easily. The app can be used to reserve, unlock and lock the vehicle and start the engine. Private car sharing has never been so easy and seamless!

Sharing is caring

MINI Sharing can be conveniently used via the MINI Sharing app. As soon as this is installed on the customer's smartphone (available for iOS and Android), family members and friends can be invited, provided they also have the app. If acquaintances would like to use the vehicle for a certain period of time, they can send a request to the owner via the app. This is displayed in the calendar function of the new MINI Sharing App and can be confirmed and managed there by the owner. After approval, the vehicle can be unlocked, started and locked with the smartphone.

Before the start of the booking, the guest driver receives useful information about the vehicle, such as the location or the range or the state of charge. The user only needs an internet connection to start a booking; the smartphone then communicates with the MINI sharing module via Bluetooth, with the advantage that interaction with the vehicle is possible without an internet connection. This means that MINI Sharing can also be used in underground car parks or locations with poor network coverage without any problems.

Tried and tested successfully in 2019

MINI Sharing was already successfully tried and tested in Madrid in 2019 and later in Barcelona with great popularity. After the successful completion of the pilot project, the private car sharing offer has now been available nationwide in Spain since October 2020. The market launch in Germany and the Netherlands took place at the beginning of March 2021. All German MINI models from January 2020 onwards are already equipped with the necessary preparation ex works (SA 5GE - Flexible Car Sharing Preparation). The required MINI sharing module can be ordered and installed as an accessory from any MINI service partner. MINI Sharing can then be used immediately by the customer. The costs for MINI Sharing in Germany amount to 360 euros in the first year including a term of one year, plus retrofitting costs. If the one-year period has expired, the MINI Sharing Service costs 49 euros per year (as of March 2021).

Don't worry, of course that was far from being the case when it came to auto / auto tuning. Our magazine still has tens of thousands other tuning reports in stock. Do you want to see them all? About Thomas Wachsmuth

Thomas Wachsmuth - He has been an integral part of tuningblog.eu since 2013. His passion for cars is so intense that he invests every available penny in them. While he dreams of a BMW E31 850CSI and a Hennessey 6x6 Ford F-150, he currently drives a rather inconspicuous BMW 540i (G31/LCI). His collection of books, magazines and brochures on the subject of car tuning has now reached such proportions that he himself has become a walking reference work for the tuning scene.  More about Thomas
