Actually, it's always the opposing pairings that make a drag race so interesting. Not that a race one AMG E63 against an RS6 is boring, but occurs Lamborghini Huracan Performante versus a Tesla Model S Performance on, then it's just more exciting. At least that's how we see it! The situation is very similar when a vehicle with a 5,0-liter V8 competes against a supposedly small four-cylinder. And that's exactly what happened in CarWow's latest YouTube video. There the Mercedes-AMG A45s (W 177) can compete against one of only 300 Jaguar XE Project 8 sedans built. On paper, of course, the Jaguar has a distinct advantage over the Mercedes. It has a supercharged 5,0-liter V8 as well as an eight-speed automatic and boasts 600 hp (447 kW) and an impressive 700 Newton meters of torque.

The power in the XE comes to all four wheels by means of all-wheel drive. But it doesn't have launch control like the AMG. However, it only has to be satisfied with a 2,0-liter four-cylinder with a turbocharger and has “only” 421 hp (313 kW) and 500 Nm of torque with almost the same weight. The engine in the Benz transfers the power to all four wheels by means of an eight-speed automatic and 4matic all-wheel drive. The first drag race begins with a standing start. One of the vehicles covers the quarter mile in 4 seconds and the other in 11,8 seconds. This is followed by a rolling start and a brake test. How does the 12,1 kilogram Jaguar fare against the Mercedes, which is hardly lighter at 1.672 kilograms? And justify the at least € 1.630 for the fast Brit compared to the approx. € 182.000 for the A62.000? The video delivers the result!
