Mercedes-Benz is adding a new entry-level model to its Marco Polo family, thus setting the course for further growth in the motorhome market. In addition to the popular Marco Polo camping bus based on the V-Class mid-size van, the portfolio will in future include a factory-fitted camping module that can be flexibly installed and removed for the new small vans with the star, including the new T-Class. The so-called Marco Polo module with a standard bed and optional kitchen unit for the rear or rear will be available from Mercedes-Benz branches and dealers from the end of the year. The new T-Class with Marco Polo module can be seen for the first time at the Mercedes trade fair stand in Hall 16 at the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf from August 27 to September 4, 2022.

A fully integrated micro camper based on the Mercedes-Benz small van will follow in the second half of 2023. The brand with the star is thus increasingly entering the micro camper segment. “The motorhome market is of strategic importance to us. We are continuously expanding our presence. The new T-Class with Marco Polo module is our answer to the growing demand for micro campers, which are becoming increasingly popular, especially among the young, fast-growing vanlife fan community. On the one hand, this is because they can be used flexibly as an everyday vehicle or camper thanks to their often modular conversion concept. On the other hand, they are easy to handle thanks to their small external dimensions and weight of less than three tonnes and can be driven with a category B driving licence,” says Klaus Rehkugler, Head of Sales and Marketing at Mercedes‑Benz Vans.

With the Marco Polo module, the new T‑Class can be transformed into a micro camper:

  • The standard bed unit offers space for two people with a lying surface measuring two meters by 1,15 meters. A point-elastic disc spring system and an extra-thick ten-centimetre mattress ensure ergonomic lying down to the edges. For use, the bed frame is conveniently pulled out to the front and the mattress folded out. During the journey, the frame with the folded mattress is in the trunk. The rear seats can then be used without restriction. The standard scope for high sleeping comfort also includes blackout elements for all window panes and a ventilation grille with insect protection, which is clamped between the panes and the frame. Also standard are two window pockets on both sides between the C and D pillars for smaller items.
  • The optional kitchen unit based on a drawer system with push to open and soft close function. It includes a sink with an easily accessible 12-liter water tank, a 15-liter cool box and a flexibly removable gas cartridge cooker. Additional drawers offer space for cutlery, crockery and food supplies. In addition, she has two camping chairs and a table. The table has two different feet. This means that it can be set up outdoors or attached behind the center console in the new T‑Class – a first in the segment.

The bed and kitchen unit are attached to the lashing eyes in the trunk.[2] Two people can remove and insert the entire Marco Polo module from the new T-Class in just a few simple steps. The step from everyday vehicle to micro camper and back takes only a few minutes. The entire Marco Polo module has a stylish, clean design and is anthracite in color. It fits seamlessly into the high-quality interior of the Mercedes‑Benz small van. In addition, the Mercedes star and lettering show the clear affiliation to the brand. The prices for the Marco Polo module will be announced when they can be ordered at the end of the year.

Of course, that wasn't the end of it!
