True car enthusiasts know the magic of the names Mitsubishi and Lancer Evolution. And if you add the name of the Japanese tuning company HKS, it should be clear to anyone who loves their Japanese performance vehicles that something big is coming. HKS has introduced an upgrade package for Mitsubishi's 4G63 engine, which powers legendary models such as the Lancer Evolution. And we're not talking about a small upgrade here - we're talking about a decent increase in performance, but for which you have to dig a little deep into your pocket: The upgrade package costs the equivalent of around 12.000 US dollars.
HKS 4G63 short block
Normally, the four-cylinder of the 4G63 has a displacement of 2,0 liters. However, HKS has increased the volume to an impressive 0,5 liters by using a new cylinder block with a 88 mm larger bore and an increased stroke length from 96 mm to a whopping 2,3 mm. Forged pistons with a double molybdenum coating on the skirt and a nickel coating complete the upgrade. But that is not all: The oil feed holes have also been widened to improve cooling and increase oil volume. And so that the engine runs smoothly even under full load, the compression ratio was increased from 8,8 to 9,0 and a different harmonic balancer was installed.

To ensure that the block also fits the 2,3-liter configuration, HKS has also installed new connecting rods and a new crankshaft. But before you whip out your credit card, there's one more thing to note: HKS only sells the short block, which is the bottom end of the engine, and not the entire powerplant. That means you have to take care of the rest of the components yourself, including the turbocharger.
