Powerful HEMI V8 in the 1977 Restomod Jeep Cherokee S!

The current Jeep Grand Cherokee may be a well-done do-it-all, but its cutting-edge aesthetic is definitely not for everyone. But for lovers of vehicles with old-school charm and retro design, there is something very special: a 1977 Cherokee S, lovingly restored and modernized by tuner Vigilante 4×4. This beautiful piece of automotive history is something of a vintage wine with a modern twist - you get the best of both worlds. Vigilante 4×4 has breathed new life into the Jeep by equipping it with a wealth of modern parts without compromising the timeless design.

The rebuild started with a 392 HEMI V8 producing a whopping 485 horsepower and mated to a Bowler Performance 4L80E automatic transmission. But the updates don't end with the engine. Vigilante also installed a Dana 44 front axle and a Dana 60 rear axle to give the SUV extra stability and more outback performance. To improve the driving characteristics, modern brakes with perforated and slotted discs from the manufacturer Baer (with black saddle) as well as Eibach springs and adjustable Fox Racing shock absorbers. When you consider that the Cherokee S once featured leaf springs, it's clear that the new suspension has drastically improved handling. And another major mechanical improvement is the new Advanced Adapter Atlas II transfer case.

Noble look in midnight blue & glacier white

In contrast to the technology, the optical changes are rather subtle, but still effective. The Cherokee S now rides on custom 17x9-inch chrome-plated billet aluminum wheels and the body is finished in a rich midnight blue with plenty of chrome detailing. Unlike many other Cherokee S models from the period, this example lacks the usual wood planking on the sides. Instead, a subtle Glacier White stripe adorns the car, giving it an elegant and premium look. Matching this, the roof and the pillars are also kept in white. And the interior is just as carefully thought out.

Vigilante fitted a slate gray interior with embossed floral patterns on the seats and door panels. There are new digital gauges, too, but the Cherokee S owner chose not to clutter the interior with even more modern electronics. Even the FM radio is still the original. Overall, the Restomod conversion is a successful example of how to update a classic vehicle with modern technology and an eye for detail and style.
