For fans of the so-called Council Rods, meaning vehicles with visible rust and in shabby condition, this 1955 Dodge tow truck might be just the ticket. It is based on a vehicle from the so-called C series from Dodge, which was only moderately successful at the time and therefore only remained in production for six years. That's why you don't see many of them these days, in any form. And last May, that tow truck in the pictures was part of a Mecum vehicle auction in Indianapolis, but was not sold there. There are two things that are particularly striking about the XXL pickup. The first, of course, is the condition of the body, which looks rusty and aged in a shade of brown with faded "Mike's Garage" lettering on the doors. And the second feature, and also the most noticeable, are of course the huge off-road wheels.

The exact size of the rims is not known, but they are included Off-road tires related that push everything else into the background. Specifically, it's 132 cm high Michelin rubber that takes the C-Series to a height that Dodge probably never would have guessed. Back then, the off-roader was offered with four different engines, the largest being a 331ci (5,4-liter) V8. But since the vehicle in the pictures is a tuning conversion, a different unit is of course installed. More specifically, under the sheet metal lies a 454ci (7,4-litre) Chevy engine with unfortunately unknown power, coupled to a Turbo 400 automatic transmission. By the way, not much was done to modernize the interior.
the structure is newer than you think
However, the brown leather used is no longer that of more than 60 years ago. Visually, the new leather interior matches the brown exterior perfectly. And now comes another surprise: While the Dodge looks almost seven decades old in appearance, it is actually much newer in this form. Dubbed the 2016 homegrown vehicle, it's based on a 1989 Chevrolet K3500 chassis. Who would have thought? Pretty cool thing we think!
