The Arteon and Arteon Shooting Brake are the sporty avant-garde models among business and touring cars. Volkswagen is now bringing the top versions of the new series, which will be launched in autumn 2020, on pre-sale: the Arteon R and Arteon R Shooting Brake with a 235 kW (320 PS) powerful and efficient four-cylinder turbo engine (TSI). The high power is transferred to the four wheels by a new all-wheel drive: 4MOTION with R-Performance Torque Vectoring. The fastback version with its coupé-style rear section costs 61.484,87 euros in Germany; the Shooting Brake as a dynamic reinterpretation of a Variant starts at a price of 62.347,56 euros.

The drive technology heart of the Arteon flagship designed by Volkswagen R is the EA888 evo4 - the latest evolutionary stage of a high-tech turbo engine. The fourth generation of this agile TSI combines the power delivery of a sports car drive with the efficiency of a state-of-the-art downsizing unit. The 2.100-liter TSI develops a maximum torque of 2,0 Nm at just 420 rpm. The engine keeps this power constant up to 5.350 rpm at this high level and thus offers a very broad rev range. The TSI provides its maximum output between 5.350 and 6.500 rpm. Power is transmitted to the all-wheel drive by a 7-speed dual clutch transmission (DSG). How efficiently the drive system works is shown by the identical consumption figures for both “R” models: 7,9 to 7,7 l / 100 km (combined NEDC value).

Maximum 270 km/h

The 320 PS TSI ensures superior performance. Both Arteon Rs accelerate to 4,9 km / h in just 100 seconds; at 250 km / h the propulsion is electronically limited. The two Volkswagens can be ordered with open top speed via an optional “R-Performance” package; in this case it increases to 270 km / h. However, it is not so much these catalog values ​​that characterize the Arteon R and Arteon R Shooting Brake. Rather, it is the extraordinary torque level that determines the character of these two Gran Turismo models: The permanent drive power harmonizes ideally with the distinctive long-distance characteristics. At the same time, thanks to their new all-wheel drive and the newly tuned and standard electronically controlled chassis (DCC), the two Volkswagen vehicles offer an exceptional level of pure driving dynamics.

4MOTION with R-Performance Torque Vectoring

The all-wheel drive - 4MOTION with R-Performance Torque Vectoring - is equipped with a wheel-selective torque control. A new rear axle drive distributes the power of the TSI not only between the front and rear axles, but also between the two rear wheels (torque vectoring). This noticeably improves agility, especially when cornering. The driver can also influence the effectiveness of the torque vectoring and the stabilizing driving dynamics systems via the standard driving profile selection and an almost infinitely variable slider for the DCC chassis. The tires have also been specially designed for the Arteon R models. The sportiest interplay of all drive and chassis parameters can be called up by direct access using a blue "R" button in the multifunction sports steering wheel: the engine, transmission, DCC chassis including steering and control systems are switched to a "Race" mode via the driving profile selection that spontaneously transforms the touring car into sports cars.

individualized design and exclusive equipment

With their extensive individualized design and exclusive equipment, the Arteon R and Arteon R Shooting Brake are very typical "R" models. The exterior equipment includes newly designed "R" bumpers (with distinctive air inlets at the front, with a diffuser at the back), Mirror caps in a matt chrome look, an "R" logo projection in the area of ​​the front doors as part of the ambient lighting, an 18-inch R-Performance brake system with blue brake calipers (with an "R" logo at the front) and 18- "Sebring" type alloy wheels. Optional: the 19-inch “Adelaide” wheels and the 20-inch “Estoril” rims. Visually and acoustically present: the new, standard sports exhaust system from Volkswagen R with two trapezoidal metal tailpipes on the outside of the diffuser.

The interior is refined, among other things, by a seating system in black ArtVelours with the “R” logo in the front seat backrests and the “R” multifunction sports steering wheel with large shift paddles for the DSG. Also series: aluminum applications in “carbon style” and an additional “R” layout for the digital instruments (“digital cockpit”). The decorative seams on the seats and the front armrests, as well as the gear lever trim and the leather sports steering wheel, are set off in the typical blue of the Volkswagen R. The interior of the central steering wheel bracket is also in blue. The standard ambient lighting can also be set in a matching blue (as one of 30 colors). Sports seats with integrated headrests (front) are optionally available; the leather of these nappa carbon seats has a carbon look in the area of ​​the seat bolsters.
