First VW made everyone “hot” with the 400R Concept and then the whole thing was canceled last year 🙁 reason enough for Shaun Mooloo, boss of “VAGcafe” (specializing in VAG vehicles) to build the R500 himself. The project was actually implemented in far-away South Africa, but whoever sees the MK7 will find that this type of tuning would also be well received by us. The team from has always shown us that there is a lively tuning scene in South Africa RACE! South Africa and now the VAG Cafe is added! Although the MK7 has a hard time against the decades-tuned Mk1, Mk2 or MK3 and of course the Jetta and the classic VW Beetle, the VW scene in South Africa has taken on the MK7 in recent years. This specimen is particularly impressive thanks to the “OEM +” style, which cannot be taken for granted. The basis is the pre-facelift version of the Golf MK7 R with 300 PS - 2.0 Turbo, which was available until February 2017.
Various carbon elements of the Revo “Carbon Series” Air-Intake stand out discreetly under the hood. They are installed in combination with a Revo TT-R turbo kit including new charge air lines. In addition, there was a Competition Spec charge air cooler from Wagner with ECS Tuning Boost Tap., Revo Stage 3 chip tuning and water / methanol injection. In connection with a complete stainless steel system including exhaust manifold, new racing catalytic converters, exhaust flap control and new rear silencers, including black tailpipes, the 2 liter now spits out a whopping 500PS. Of course, the DSG gearbox was also adapted to the power in order to send the new power optimally to the 4 driven wheels. And a lot has happened visually as well. For example, there was a roof edge spoiler from SRS Tec, Mücke plastic fenders and a front apron adapted to it. Another highlight are the stylish multi-part OZ Racing Chrono III alloy wheels with Continental Sport Contact tires in the 235 / 30-20 format.
If you look closely, you can also see a REVO brake system including slotted brake discs on the front axle. To ensure that the wheel set sits perfectly in the wheel arch, the R500 has also been lowered significantly using the KW DDC Plug & Play coilover kit. At the rear, Shaun built in facelift taillights and for the interior there was a sound system with Rockford Fosgate components in the trunk. Even with these changes, he is still the classic "wolf in sheep's clothing" as we find, because no one surely suspects 500PS in this MK7.
