Sports cars are works of art on four wheels. “Cars & Carpets“ she stages visually stunningly on the unique carpets from Object Carpet. The automobiles presented in this way have stood for luxury, elegance and performance for decades. The holistic view of their meaning, in combination with the carpets, is a homage to the exceptional vehicles of their time. The illustrated book approaches the Object Carpet brand on a very emotional level and at the same time honors the powerful and elegant automobiles with highly aesthetic images. On Monday evening, November 27th, the work was presented at the Drivers & Business Club of Motorworld Munich. The illustrated book is another publication in just two years that tells the story or episodes from the history of Object Carpet, the German premium manufacturer of carpets, rugs and carpet tiles. With its title it is reminiscent of the calendar series from the 2010s called “Carpets, Cars & Architecture".

Carpets, Cars & Architecture

The content of the book is based on the almost legendary automobile calendars, which are now sought-after collector's items and follow a long tradition of photographic art at Object Carpet. The 50th anniversary has already been honored in an opulent illustrated book. At the start of the event, Daniel Butz, Managing Director of Object Carpet, gave an insight into the company's history. Joachim Fischer from the Fischermann.Media publishing agency explained the concept of the illustrated book and Roland Lewandowski, as the evening's moderator, showed the path from vision to extraordinary design.

Roland Butz founded his company over 50 years ago with the clear goal of producing the most beautiful carpets for the contract sector, far away from the classic carpets. With incomparable determination and the pursuit of perfection, he revolutionized the industry and won his company Object Carpet a permanent place in the plans of architects around the world. Spectacular activities with and on the carpet made a significant contribution to this success. While on the one hand there were models like Claudia Schiffer or artists like Barry White who were photographed by Michel Comte or Helmut Newton on Object Carpet and on their behalf, on the other hand there were legendary and rare automobiles that were photographed by Hans-Peter Jugglers were staged in the studios of the same name.

a special contemporary document

The current illustrated book was created at the personal request of the company founder Roland Butz, for whom cars were a great passion. The work shows legendary vehicles from over 100 years of automotive history, which were photographed in one-off sessions in the Gaukler Studios for campaigns and for Object Carpet's collector's calendars. From today's perspective, it is almost unimaginable, as the now priceless automobiles are no longer allowed to leave the collections and the technical effort required for implementation would no longer be affordable. Looking back, it is also a special contemporary document in the collaboration with a visionary company founder like Roland Butz as well as in the friendly and collegial cooperation with the photographer Hans-Peter Gaukler as well as Michael Bock, former head of Mercedes-Benz Classic, and Norbert Haug, the former racing director of Daimler AG.

Norbert Haug, former racing director at Mercedes Benz: "When you place such impressive vehicles on the finest carpet in the world, there has to be a connection. The idea of combining the successful Mercedes brand in racing with the most beautiful designer carpets in the world was fascinating. When I saw the finished coffee table book, I remembered the beginnings, and I think it turned out much better than I imagined at the time."

Gorden Wagener, chief designer at Daimler AG, has written a guest article. And so they all have their say in this illustrated book, which is also an important contemporary document. The illustrated book brings together two seemingly incompatible worlds – automobiles and carpets – in an extraordinary way, while emphasizing the importance of the people behind the project. Joachim Fischer, founder of Fischermann.Media, expresses his emotions about the realization of this special project: “It fills me with humility and pride that we were able to implement Roland Butz's wish. Above all, we managed to let him experience 'Cars & Carpet' before he passed away."

The production was characterized by ongoing requests for images from Hans-Peter Gaukler from his archive. It was he who photographed many automobiles from the premium and luxury segment, racing vehicles and vintage cars on Object Carpet's exclusive carpets for decades. “With a variety of images in our repertoire, we not only wanted to convey visual impressions, but also bring the stories behind them to life“, explains Joachim Fischer. “For this illustrated book, we specifically selected specific projects and captured their unique stories."
