What suits me? Electric car or a hybrid?

Fuel is becoming more and more expensive and the environment more and more valuable, which is why drivers tend to buy fuel-efficient and emission-free vehicles. You can choose between an electric car, a hybrid and a plug-in hybrid. These three vehicle types are now part of the basic equipment of most manufacturers and everyone strives to produce their environmentally friendly vehicles as efficiently as possible for the customer. The storage capacity of the battery and consumption are essential criteria for an electric vehicle. When choosing the vehicle, no special knowledge is required, just as to understand the difference between an electric car, a hybrid or a plug-in hybrid. In general, these vehicles are ideal for drivers who want to reduce their carbon footprint.

E-cars - sometimes less complicated!

E-cars have neither an exhaust system nor an oil change, because the most important thing in the vehicle is the battery. In addition, the batteries are placed in the floor, which is why the weight is low and centralized. In addition, 100 percent of the torque is available at all times and the vehicle can be charged at the socket at home. In addition, nowadays more and more electricity comes from renewable energy sources, which makes the car even more environmentally friendly. E-cars also have something for lovers of acceleration and speed. Many vehicles reach 60 km/h in barely two seconds and can reach speeds of well over 200 km/h. These properties allow the e-car to perform better in terms of efficiency than hybrids or combustion engines. The disadvantages, however, are the short range and the long charging times. Often they only last up to 250-300 km and need some time to fully charge. This limits the daily range and electric vehicles still have deficits in terms of reliability, software and processing quality.

Hybrid cars - the golden mean?

What suits me? Electric car or a hybrid?

Hybrid cars have both a combustion engine and an electric drive component on board. They have a certain comfort, since refueling is possible and there are no long loading times to be endured. And it is partly also environmentally friendly, since driving on the battery is possible. In contrast to all-electric vehicles, hybrids are cheaper and simpler. With its technology of combining the fuel efficiency of petrol engines with electric motors, the ecological balance is improved and the CO₂ footprint is also reduced. The fuel consumption should be as low as possible and yet the vehicle is provided with more power through the combination of both engines. In order to achieve the goal of a low ecological balance, there are three different types of hybrids. In the first type, the wheels are either simultaneously, independent from each other or together powered by petrol engine and electric motor. The so-called parallel hybrid has a smaller combustion engine and is designed for less power, which in turn protects the environment more. The next hybrid only uses the electric motor to drive the wheels and in another model a small battery only takes over the drive for a short distance before the combustion engine kicks in again and recharges the battery while driving.

With these vehicles, no external power supply is required, because the vehicle charges itself while driving with the combustion engine. Modern and powerful hybrid vehicles are mostly plug-in vehicles. You have both a petrol and an electric drive with you that can be charged from the outside. To be more efficient, they have a larger battery, which allows them to run longer on electric power. The car can be charged externally, so that short distances can be covered fully electrically and no petrol is required. The advantages of hybrid vehicles include their increased performance and improved fuel economy, as well as being less expensive to purchase. However, plug-in hybrids are a small exception to other hybrids, as plug-in vehicles are significantly more expensive and only cover a short range electrically. In general, the high repair costs are a major disadvantage for hybrids, because often both engines have to be repaired in the event of engine damage, which doubles the costs compared to an electric car or petrol engine.

Fully electric or semi-electric?

Because the purchase of an electric or hybrid vehicle is significantly more expensive than that of a petrol vehicle, the state supports buyers with subsidies. Up to 9000 € are possible when purchasing an electric car. Unfortunately, hybrid cars will no longer be supported. The trend of the state is nevertheless clear. More and more e-cars are to take over traffic and support environmental protection. E-cars are constantly being improved and are the future of mobility. The choice of the electric vehicle depends on your own needs. A hybrid is recommended for longer distances and higher performance. If you have a short commute of less than 100 km, no long journeys or a lot of patience when charging, a fully electric vehicle is worthwhile. A plug-in hybrid is ideally suited for short distances on an electric basis and long journeys without long charging times. If money is not an issue, a long-range electric vehicle is also an option!
