Knauf Automotive is part of the Knauf Group and therefore has a strong partner behind it. Rather inconspicuous and not well known to end consumers, Knauf Automotive has been supplying the automotive industry for 20 years now. In addition to the automobile manufacturers themselves, customers also include their suppliers. And Knauf’s innovative plastic components are used worldwide.

Knauf product range stands for security

There are three major product areas in which Knauf Automotive is currently active. On the one hand there are the components made of foamable polystyrene (EPS) and foamable polypropylene (EPP), and on the other hand there are the injection molded products and the packaging made of EPP material. The exterior, interior and seat components are made from foamable polystyrene (EPS) and foamable polypropylene (EPP). These materials are characterized by their light and elastic properties. They also have enormous shock-absorbing properties, making them the perfect material for the automotive industry. Not only is the safety of passengers increased by the EPS and EPP plastic materials, weight and energy management in the automotive industry also benefits from the properties. The external components, such as shock absorbers and ventilation grilles, offer many possibilities thanks to their lightweight construction and energy-damping properties and cannot be implemented without EPP.

EPP material can be vital

But the advantages are not only in weight optimization for the manufacturer and customer. A shock absorber made of EPP material can be a vital safety feature for pedestrians. The interior components made of shock-absorbing polypropylene foam represent a major safety aspect for the occupants. Vehicle interior elements such as the EPP padding on the steering wheel column are indispensable in the event of an accident, particularly for the driver. The ability to manufacture large auto parts such as seats from lightweight and durable materials such as EPP is an important achievement for the automotive industry. The possibilities that Knauf Automotive offers here with the EPP seats not only benefit the manufacturers. The end user feels the properties of the material in terms of fuel consumption, comfort and safety.

The second main product group, the spray components, is found both inside and outside the car. Inside, the parts of the dashboard, such as the glove compartment, the door and window pillars or the door handles, can be. On the outside you can find the spray components, for example on the fender, on the wheel arches, on the trunk linings or the bumpers. The last innovative product from Knauf Automotive is the 100 percent recyclable packaging made of foamable polypropylene (EPP). In addition to long-term use of the transport boxes, the material's resistance also enables the safe transport of fragile objects. They can be individually designed for every object.
