Original brakes yes or no? That's what the ÖAMTC says!

Many Used car drivers The question arises whether you absolutely need for your used vehicle Original brakes need or not? By means of a comprehensive test, the ÖAMTC (Austrian automobile, motorcycle and touring club) to get to the bottom of this question. Five brakes available on the aftermarket were exemplified using one as an example VW Golf 7 tested and with the original brake system installed in the original equipment in categories such as Safety or wear compared.

The result:

According to ÖAMTC there is also good and inexpensive Alternatives to the original brakes. In order to save a few hundred euros quickly, however, workshops and spare parts must be compared precisely. This comparison is particularly worthwhile for older vehicles that require a lot of repairs. In most cases, consumers do not even have to compromise on the safety and durability of the braking system.

The selection for the test:

The ÖAMTC used a wide range of brakes for the test. From Low budget product up to the sport brake, the most diverse models were compared with the original. A set of all products was tested Disc brakes and brake pads from the respective manufacturer. Depending on the brand, the price for 4 brake discs and pads varied between 100 and just over 400 euros.

The test result:

In the test, four branded items from the accessories trade (according to EU standard UN-R 90) were awarded the test result "great" cut off. So they are more than just comparable to the original. The cheap product alone achieved only one satisfactory Rating.

The test result in detail:

The clear test winner was the brake dust-reducing one Ceramic brake from ATE. It achieved the best values for wear in a normal driving situation. When braking from a higher speed, the performance dwindles somewhat, but the result is still good. The Original brake from VW With a price of over 400 euros, it was by far the most expensive model in the test and took second place.

The from drita Place occupied the perforated Sport brake "Xtra-Line" from Brembo. It had the best braking values, but also that greatest wear. In place come landed the perforated sports brake "CoatZ“By Zimmermann and on place five maneuvered the brake from Bosch. The clear loser of the test is the cheap brake of Ridex. In terms of braking performance, it was only able to achieve a "sufficient" rating. The overall rating with a grade of 3,5 was also not intoxicating.

The test results even surprised the experts:

The experts were also surprised by the test results. The braking distances from a speed of 100 km / h differed only slightly half a meter from each other. Therefore, the ÖAMTC advises not necessarily to original brakes. Because even the loser in the test, the Ridex brake, only braked a meter worse than the other models.

Of course, that wasn't the end of it!
