Salad oil as an alternative to diesel?

Anyone who owns a car and has to refuel regularly has probably already noticed that the current diesel prices have long since beaten the prices for petrol. Unfortunately, there are hardly any cheap alternatives to filling up. The reason for the massive increase in fuel prices is the Ukraine war and of course our insatiable government. However, experts strongly advise against salad oil or heating oil into the tank to supposedly save money. There are various reasons for this.

Is refueling with salad oil even possible?

You can get a liter of rapeseed oil in the supermarket for as little as 1,50 to 1,80 euros. Compared to the current diesel price, this is a supposedly cheap offer and certainly worth a brief consideration for one or the other. After all, we are talking about a saving of 10 to 25 percent and if the salad oil is on sale, maybe even more. The prices for heating oil are a bit more expensive and currently amount to around 2 euros per liter (!!!), which is still cheaper compared to diesel fuel. But neither vegetable oil from the supermarket yet Heating oil actually come as an alternative. The decisive factor is the difference in viscosity compared to diesel. In short, this means that diesel and vegetable or heating oil differ in their viscosity and flowability massively differ. For example, vegetable oils can contribute to starting difficulties and have a negative effect on the engine in the long term, i.e. the performance and service life are improved by using oil severely impaired.

The way food is injection pumps and nozzles are not designed for the more viscous oil and combustion problems can occur. In addition to a reduced engine performance, which the vehicle user expects, there is also the engine and the fuel system harm in the long run. Deposits and blockages can also form in pipes and filters. And should it happen that vegetable or heating oil gets into the Engine oil arrive, the vehicle user can also expect damage directly to the engine. Compared to diesel, vegetable oils or heating oil are also classified as more acidic, which means that Seals can be attacked and destroyed. Car manufacturers and other experts therefore urgently advise against the use of vegetable oil or heating oil as an alternative to diesel, which is currently expensive ab. However, since some have already tried to use oil as an alternative to diesel in the past, this has even been taxed according to the Energy Tax Act since 2008. If the user does not comply, the paragraph is the tax evasion to consider.

Statement of the ADAC

The ADAC also issued a statement on the use of heating oil as an alternative to diesel. On the one hand, reference was made to statutory taxation and the associated prohibition. The ADAC also classified the use of heating oil as "technically problematic". Complete combustion would not occur, resulting in a high ignition delay. The consequences include a reduction in engine performance and higher emissions of pollutants into the environment.
