What is and what is the point of a Clubsport set consisting of a net and strut? In motorsport, there is nothing more important than saving weight. That's why many people come up with the idea of removing the rear seat bench. In order to still ensure a separation from the trunk and at the same time achieve more torsional rigidity, there are a large number of Clubsport sets (consisting of net, strut, carpet). In most cases, the strut is attached to the rear seat brackets. The net is attached to the Isofix points (if available) using the net loops and the carpet (velor carpet, depending on the manufacturer) covers the area from the back seat area to the trunk. This guarantees that nothing can get from the trunk into the driver's cabin during heavy braking manoeuvres.
Are there any legal concerns?
There is not much to consider here, but many different opinions. Basically, there is nothing wrong with installing a Club Sport set with strut and net. Removing the seats, on the other hand, sometimes poses a problem. Although part 1 of the registration certificate only states the maximum number of people and not the exact number of seats, the sticker is often denied. In any case, it is worth asking your trusted inspector before the conversion and, if necessary, the changes to be carried around. If no change acceptance is necessary (e.g. in the case of a ABE), but still consult the car insurance company and state the change, otherwise you may not be paid in the event of damage. However, thanks to the TÜV parts certificate, the Clubsport hanger is often not required to be registered.
For which cars is the conversion suitable?
Basically, the conversion is suitable for any track tool. However, hatchbacks such as the VW Golf and the Hyundai I30 are clearly pioneers, but coupes such as the Audi TT / TTS / TT RS or the BMW M2 are also popular representatives. There are even various Clubsport sets for the Abarth 500 / 595 / 695. Almost all sets do not require drilling or screwing!
