Rich Benoits has had an electrical project going for a while. And that could be called "Budget EV retrofitting" describe. Because Benoit gives an old Mini an electric soul for little money. His goal was just maximal 5.000 dollars to invest. And now that the Mini is finished, it turns out that it actually cost a lot less than planned. The rear seats flew out of the Mini, there was a second Chevrolet Volt battery at this point, but the preservation of the factory mini transmission means there is too much torque from the electric motor to the front wheels.

In diesel vehicles, this is often solved by starting up with second or even third gear. It's now very similar in the Mini. Aside from the technical details and budget, the videos from Rich Rebuilds are quite entertaining. Of course, the low costs were only possible because Benoit and Salowsky worked on the car themselves and the old parts from the Mini were even sold. But one Low-budget e-conversion is possible!

Thomas Wachsmuth - He has been an integral part of tuningblog.eu since 2013. His passion for cars is so intense that he invests every available penny in them. While he dreams of a BMW E31 850CSI and a Hennessey 6x6 Ford F-150, he currently drives a rather inconspicuous BMW 540i (G31/LCI). His collection of books, magazines and brochures on the subject of car tuning has now reached such proportions that he himself has become a walking reference work for the tuning scene.  More about Thomas
