Mostro Barchetta: Zagato surprises with LeMans homage!

On the Villa D'Este was a new one Convertible with a retro look from Zagato revealed. And under the body is the finest technology from Maserati. As is well known, Maserati and Zagato have a long common history that goes back to 1931 and the Maserati 8C 2500 Sport Zagato goes back The latest chapter in our shared history is presented by the Mostro Barchetta Zagato presented at Villa D'Este in 2022. The coupe version of the Mostro Zagato presented. Now, seven years later, the open variant appears. Both vehicles found their ancestors in the 1957 Maserati 450S Coupé Zagato. This also started at the 24-hour race of Le Mans.

Technical features

The Belgian sports car manufacturer Gillet delivered that Carbon monocoque with bolted steel subframe of the Mostro Barchetta Zagato as with the Mostra, of which only five copies were made. Maserati, on the other hand, supplied the available engines. In addition to the well-known 4,2 liter V8 there is also a new one V6 biturbo to select. Depending on the version, the engine power ranges from 420 up to 630 hp. With a weight of approx 1.200 kg the power should ensure extremely good driving performance in any case.

A sequential Six-speed transmission provides power transmission to the wheels. The engine is installed far behind the front axle and the gearbox is directly flanged on. Incidentally, the vehicle only has rear-wheel drive. The 19 inch ones Alloy wheels are fastened with a central lock and they are secured by a Pushrod suspension and new wishbones guided. The size of the Tubes is 255/40 at the front and 295/35 at the rear. One four-piston system from AP Racing also provides the necessary braking power.

Five copies of the retro sports car!

The Carbon body is classically drawn and largely corresponds to that of the coupé. To a roof but of course the barchetta does without. There are two behind the passengers Roll bar and trailing behind air domes. The cockpit is dominated by seven analogue round clocks. There is also a lot here Manager and visible Carbon. The Sport steering wheel is by the way without an airbag. It is planned, also only from the Mostro Barchetta Zagato five copies to manufacture. Just like with the Mostro Zagato. The first example was ceremonially handed over to its owner at the Villa D'Este.

As usual, prices are not mentioned, but they should be in the seven-digit range. The Mostro Barchetta Zagato represents the open version of the retro sports car seven years after the Mostro Zagato. Again, Maserati supplied the engines and again only five copies were built. And all of them will probably disappear in the garages of various collectors. Pity!
