Mercedes shows that the current Mercedes V-Class can also be equipped as a noble workshop vehicle with the Metris Toolbox Concept at the Chicago auto show. A vehicle couldn't be more versatile. The V-Class can play the veritable luxury liner for the extended family, it can be an extremely practical recreational vehicle or, if desired, a fully-fledged craftsman's mobile. With the Metris Toolbox Concept study, Mercedes shows how this could be used for assembly in the USA. The basis for the conversion is a classic tool kit as used by hundreds of thousands. In the loading area, the van was equipped with a cool wing door on the left in the direction of travel, which even extends right up to the top of the roof and swings up when opened. It gives a huge and very practical access to the cargo area of the V-Class. Immediately visible are the many storage compartments at working height in which you can stow all kinds of useful or useless things. The right-hand side of the V-Class, on the other hand, retains the classic sliding door.

The interior was also equipped on this side with extremely practical cabinet modules. To ensure a long service life, a special floor covering protects the floor of the vehicle, and the covering can even be removed and cleaned for cleaning work. Another cool idea is the demarcation to the driver's cab, which was made transparent and reminds a bit of a stretch limo, but in contrast to this, the demarcation is transparent and the driver always sees what is happening back there. The blue protector elements on the sills, the rear doors, the roof, the rear bumper corners and the wheel arches all around, which are intended to protect against the consequences of small bumps and are of course a visual highlight, are very noticeable on the outside.

And of course it was not just dreary steel or aluminum rims, but rims with a special craftsman design that also got blue accents. The absolute highlight, however, is in the form of an implied carrying handle on the roof of the V-Class and thus the impression of a toolbox is perfectly rounded off. And the performance of the V-Class is also impressive: the Metris truck is inspired by a 2,0l four-cylinder turbo gasoline engine with a full 211 hp, which is sent directly to the rear wheels by means of a seven-speed automatic transmission. The unique project was created in collaboration with the US Mercedes tuner RennTech and is definitely one of the highlights at the Chicago Auto Show.
