With the show car A424_ß (pronounced "beta"), 60 years after the first appearance at the 24-hour Le Mans race, Alpine is presenting an exciting teaser for the new endurance prototype that will be taking part in the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship at the starting line will stand. This vehicle represents the best of Alpine's automotive and racing culture, both visually and technologically, and also gives a first taste of future lighting for Alpine production models. Alpine's CEO, Laurent Rossi, is enthusiastic: “Today, with the presentation of the Alpine A424_ß, we are unveiling the pioneer of our upcoming hypercar, which will challenge the crème de la crème of the racing world from next year. This innovatively designed and iconic executed vehicle embodies Alpine's current and future vision and is a direct lineage to our previous Alpenglow and A290_ß models. It's fast, stylish and distinctive – the perfect ambassador for our brand, both now and in the future.”
Alpine A424_ß show car
The A424_ß model is an LMDh car (Le Mans Daytona Hybrid) that belongs to the elite of sports cars and is equipped with standardized components. Among them is the hybrid system from Bosch, which only drives the rear axle and continuously delivers 50 kW of power while recuperating up to 200 kW. The battery is supplied by Williams Advanced Engineering and the transmission by Xtrac. Teams have a choice of four different chassis suppliers and Alpine has chosen to work with Oreca. The 3,4 liter V6 engine with single turbocharger is the result of a collaboration with the racing professionals at Mecachrome. In its naming, the A424_ß stays true to Alpine's tradition of endurance cars by starting with an A followed by three digits, the first being a four.
2024 is the race track debut
The 24 stands both for the 24 Hours of Le Mans and for the year 2024, in which the vehicle will celebrate its debut on the racetrack. The "ß" symbolizes the so-called beta test in the software industry, which marks the final phase before the official launch. When it came to the design, the development team aimed for a super-sporty look, comparable to a road-going supercar. They have tried to simplify and smooth the surfaces as much as possible in order to create a harmonious overall picture. This is particularly notable at the rear, which offers an aerodynamic look in contrast to the often boxy rears of Le Mans prototypes. The car's sides are influenced by Alpine's Alpenglow concept, unveiled in 2022.
