This has changed with the third stage of Internet-based registration, the so-called i-Kfz. However, the process is not quite as simple as it sounds. In order to be able to register your vehicle online, certain requirements must be met. Using the example of a first registration, we show how the process works in detail. In addition to an ID card with online identification, you also need a reading device or a smartphone with NFC function for data transmission. The identification procedure of the registration office must then be completed, either with the Ausweis App 2, the smartphone or via ID with PIN and reader. The security code must then be revealed in the vehicle registration document (registration certificate part II).

This includes the IBAN of the owner, the eVB number of the insurance company (electronic confirmation of insurance), the vehicle identification number (VIN), the date of the main inspection and the security code. Once the information has been checked by the system, the registration fee must be paid. However, before the registration is really valid, the application must be checked for correctness and completeness by a clerk at the admissions office. You will receive the notification of admission, the certificates and the stickers by post after the exam. In terms of time, the process actually only saves the waiting time in the authority for registration. However, since it can take two to three days for the letter and the test seal to arrive, it is essential for anyone who wants to drive the car directly to go to the registration office in person.
