If you smell gas in your car: red alert!

In 2019, the Bundesverband für Gasanlagentechnik (BFG) warned that escaping gas from certain LPG gas systems could cause a vehicle fire. According to the BFG, they were responsible for the escaping gas from the LPG cars leaking high pressure flex lines. These lines lead from the tank to the evaporator in the engine compartment and can chafe through if not installed properly. Another cause may be that these lines are connected to coupling pieces that not suitable are. Also, the hose clamps may have loosened or been secured with cheap ties. By the way, the layman (the lines are often porous) also recognizes damaged lines discoloration. The gas easily reaches hot components in the LPG car, such as the engine compartment or the exhaust system, via these lines when the vehicle is stationary or driving. In the worst case, this can lead to ignition of the leaked gas, causing a vehicle fire. Exactly what defect is present when there is a smell of gas requires ALWAYS an inspection and the view of a specialist in the workshop.
