Back at Le Mans: 2024 Ford Mustang GT3 back in racing!

Ford is gearing up to return to the world of GT racing and the prestigious 2024 Hours of Le Mans in 3 with the Mustang GT24! Today, in the context of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Ford unveiled the new Mustang GT3. The racing monster is built according to the internationally successful GT3 regulations and will therefore be able to take part in a wide variety of races, especially in June 2024 on the famous Circuit de 24 Heures race track in Le Mans. Ford had already triumphed there in 2016 in the GTE class with the GT. The first official appearance of the new Mustang GT3 on the racetrack is scheduled for January next year at the 24 Hours of Daytona in Florida. By the way, the design of the Mustang GT3 is inspired by the new one Mustang Dark Horse (model year 2024).

2024 Ford Mustang GT3

The new Mustang GT3 relies on an improved sword link rear axle, many carbon fiber parts for the body and a special aerodynamic alignment in order to meet the high requirements of the GT3 regulations. The transmission has been moved to the rear axle in a transaxle design, resulting in a more balanced weight distribution. The sports divisions Ford Performance, Multimac and M-Sport are also involved in the Mustang GT3 project. They are long-term partners and take the cooperation seriously:

  • Ford is given a helping hand in the development and construction of Multimatic's racing cars. The Canadian company has brought the legendary Ford GT to life in race and production form. She also takes on the role of key player in the use of the Mustang GT3 in the North American IMSA sports car series.
  • M-Sport, from the United Kingdom, is dedicated to manufacturing the 5,4 liter V8 engine. This is based on the well-known Coyote engine series and is a product of Ford Performance. M-Sport Ford, a works-supported team, has shared numerous successes with Ford over the decades in the World Rally Championship, including Ott Tänak/Martin Järveoja's overall victory in the Puma Hybrid Rally1 at Rally Sweden in February this year.

Ford and the 24 Hours of Le Mans

"Ford and the 24 Hours of Le Mans share a deeply rooted history. Now we're back to compete in one of the biggest, most exciting and most challenging races in the worldsays Jim Farley, the CEO of Ford Motor Company, enthusiastically. "From next year it's not just about Ford vs Ferrari - we're taking on all GT3 brands. Our comeback at Le Mans is the starting signal for a new business model in motorsport, similar to what we do with the Ford Bronco and the Ranger Raptor at off-road events."

"For the Mustang GT3 project we could count on two of our most loyal partners in motorsport”, says Mark Rushbrook, director of Ford Performance and responsible for Ford's global motorsport commitment. When our all-new 2024 racer is unleashed on the motorsport scene, we will be just as excited as the countless Ford Performance fans around the world."

World premiere on the occasion of the 100th anniversary

The new Mustang GT3 is turning heads at its world premiere to mark the 100th anniversary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans with its unmistakable, colorful foiling and a freshly designed Ford Performance logo. Both the wrap and the logo were designed in the design forge of renowned motorsport designer Troy Lee - his first creation for Ford. The sleek, focused branding will henceforth characterize the entire racing range of Ford Performance and the company's sports brand a more expressive one , give it a more attractive identity as a lifestyle brand with a sporty focus. The new Ford Performance branding can be easily integrated into a wide range of contexts - from vehicle wraps to merchandise and clothing to presentations, equipment and advertising measures.

Before its return to next year's 24 Hours of Le Mans, the new Mustang GT3 is already being used by customer teams in various GT3 series and events. One of these teams, Proton Competition from Ehingen in Baden-Württemberg, is already planning to drive two Mustang GT3s in the FIA World Endurance Championship WEC from next season. "This is an incredibly significant project and an exciting moment for our team as we take a huge step forward", emphasizes Christian Ried, Team Principal of Proton Competition. "Mustang is an iconic marque and we look forward to working with Ford starting in 2024.Ford Performance also plans to field two more Mustang GT2024s as part of a works entry in the GTD Pro class of the IMSA sports car series starting in 3. That commitment, which begins with the Daytona 24 Hours in Florida next January, will be undertaken by Multimatic Motorsports.
