What follows is a nostalgic look into the future with a space tourer campervan in a retro guise! Don't we all have a weakness for retro designs that remind us of the good old days? Citroën, the French car manufacturer, has understood exactly this and is bringing along in cooperation Caselani Automobili Srl. something new in an old, classic guise. At the 2023 Caravan Salon, the Citroën Type Holidays, a rebuilt Space tourer, caused quite a stir and was designed as a tribute to the legendary Type H presents. It's a fact that camper vans become more and more popular. Tens of thousands of mobile homes are sold in Europe every year. That is more than half of all recreational vehicles! No wonder Citroën jumps on the bandwagon. With the Citroën Type Holidays, they not only make their entry into the segment, but a particularly impressive one!
Citroën Type Holidays (2024)
The design language of the cool campervan clearly goes back to the neo-retro bodies from Caselani, the we presented on tuningblog a good year ago. The so-called Berlingo 2CV Fourgonnette has already shown that retro lovers with a special sense of aesthetics are in the right place with Citroën. At the type Holidays and the Berlingo 2CV Fourgonnette there's no doubt about the design: it's an ode to the legendary Type H.
The silhouette is from David Obendorf, who has already designed other creations for Citroën. The actual remodeling was however Bravia Mobilel, one of the world's leading experts in the field. The Slovenia-based company transformed the Spacetourer into what the Type Holidays is today. A fun detail for car fans: the "bulging eyes"Headlights are from the current Fiat 500 series!
What makes the Type Holidays so special?
- Living comfort: A pop-up roof that creates additional space and allows room for a bed for two people.
- Flexibility: A bench that converts into a bed and can be removed when more storage is needed.
- Functionality: Front seats that rotate, a fully equipped kitchen and a folding table.
- Feel-good factor: Thanks to the Webasto heating, it stays cozy even on cold days.
Technology & dimensions
Two powerful 2,0-litre diesel engines power the Type Holidays, with one between a 145 PS powerful engine with a manual six-speed gearbox or one 180 hp engine with Eight-speed automatic can choose. And despite the modifications, he stays with one Length of 5,30 meters, one Height of 1,95 meters (without a pop-up roof) and two Sliding doors compact. An additional weight of 48 kg should, however, be taken into account.
What's next?
While the Type Holidays is sure to turn heads, Citroën will be presenting a facelifted version of the Spacetourer in autumn 2023. Both will be available in Spring 2024. And while the prices aren't official yet, they could be around 55.000 EUR lay.
