It is a familiar sight for fans of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship: In an accident on the track or in bad weather conditions, a Mercedes-AMG leads the field of F1 vehicles safely. It's been like this for 25 years. And Bernd Mayländer has been behind the wheel of the Official FIA F20 Safety Car for 1 years. Even the color scheme of the car has remained the same with the silver paint and black decor. But a lot is different in the 2020 season: the 430 kW (585 hp) strong Mercedes-AMG GT R (Combined fuel consumption 12,4 l / 100 km, combined CO2 emissions 284-282 g / km) will roll onto the racetrack in a new look from July 2, 2020. The safety car prominently supports the Formula 1 campaign “WeRaceAsOne” by showing its rainbow key visual on the flanks and on the bonnet. As a sign of this commitment, rainbow symbols and the hashtag #WeRaceAsOne will be seen on all Formula 1 vehicles and around the race track. The rainbow was chosen because it has become a symbol that is used internationally to bring communities together.

In addition to the “WeRaceAsOne” campaign, the call to “Drive safely” will appear on the hood of the Official FIA F1 Safety Car, addressing and reminding fans at home who are watching the race on TV or live stream to always drive carefully and considerately. In addition, Bernd Mayländer's "company car" uses the hashtag #PurposeDriven to promote the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) commitment to safety, the environment, sustainability, gender equality and diversity, including the FIA Action for Road Safety on the vehicle roof and the tailgate is pointed out. The AMG GT R therefore has the ideal conditions for the tough job in the premier class of motorsport. The FIA requirements profile for the Official FIA F1 Safety Car is high. A minimum speed level must be maintained so that the tires and brakes of Formula 1 vehicles do not cool down too much and the engines do not overheat. With a top speed of 318 km / h and 3,6 seconds for the sprint from zero to 100 km / h, everything in the AMG GT R is in the green. In addition, the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S T-Model is available as official FIA F1 Medical Car of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship for fast emergency care. It now also carries the new design.
