Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet: America Edition

The 2023 America Edition of the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS continues a tradition that began in 1952: an open sports car specially designed for the North American market. The new model – on display for the first time at the 2022 Porsche Parade in Poconos (Pennsylvania) – is based on the 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet with a 7-speed manual transmission. “The passion for Porsche is deeply rooted in the USA. Driving an open-top 911 with manual transmission is something very special,” says Kjell Gruner, CEO and President of Porsche Cars North America. "It's the right time for another 'America' model - after all, it's been 70 years since the 356 America Roadster and 30 years since the 964 America Roadster."

High performance sports car

The heart of the new 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet America is a 3,6 liter bi-turbo boxer engine with 353 kW (480 hp) and 570 Nm of torque. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) Sport is standard on board. The sports exhaust system and the Sport Chrono Package are also part of the standard equipment. Rear-axle steering and Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) are available as additional options at extra cost. The standard steel brake discs on the front wheels with six-piston aluminum fixed calipers measure 408 mm. The rear wheels are fitted with 380 mm discs with four-piston aluminum fixed calipers with a black finish.

Styling by Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur

Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur has aesthetically refined the sports car: the color chosen was “azure blue356”, inspired by the 356 America Roadster from 1953. In the 2023 model year, the color is reserved for this special vehicle. The RS Spyder design wheels with a special finish are white on the inside of the spokes and silver on the outside, including stripes in Guards Red along the edge of the rim. “America” is emblazoned on the doors in white lettering with accents in Guards Red. The color scheme continues inside, including along the upper dash panel and door panels. The armrest of the center console has two-tone embroidery in guards red and pebble grey, the leather is embossed with the lettering "America". Illuminated door sill guards are also standard: They commemorate the 70th birthday of the 356 America Roadster. An optional extended interior package provides further color accents in guards red and white, for example on the steering wheel, the gear knob and the seats.

About the 356 America Roadster

Max Hoffman, who was the first to import Porsche vehicles into the United States, had an instant hit with American customers with the 356 in 1950. The 1953 America Roadster followed in 356. The equipment of this vehicle was reduced to the essentials. It was powered by a 1480 cc four-cylinder boxer engine with an output of 51 kW (70 hp). A significant leap compared to previous models with a smaller engine with only 29 kW (40 hp). This lightweight sports car quickly became the inspiration for the 356 Speedster, which was based on the steel body of the 356 Cabriolet but featured minimal features - similar to the previous model in the family. Only 356 of the 16 America Roadster were made.

About the 964 America Roadster

In 1992, almost 40 years after the first America Roadster, Porsche took up the concept again with the 911 of the 964 generation. A US-specific, open-top model with improved performance characteristics was once again available in limited numbers in American showrooms. This limited special model was characterized by the wide body, brakes, suspension and 17-inch Porsche Cup wheels of the 911 Turbo of the time.
