With the new A480, the Alpine Endurance Team will compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2021. After eight successful years in the LMP2 class, Alpine is entering the top category of hypercars for the first time with the sports prototype. With Nicolas Lapierre, André Negrão and Matthieu Vaxivière, the team has three drivers with long-distance experience under contract. The season starts on 26./27. April in Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium.

Like the involvement in Formula 1, the new project in endurance racing also represents the Alpine brand's commitment to racing. “Motorsport is an inseparable part of Alpine. After eight LMP2 years, it is now time to move into the top class, as the brand is also making a fresh start, ”says Laurent Rossi, CEO of Alpine. “The regulations give us the opportunity to demonstrate our technical know-how and experience in a fair and cost-effective manner. We will do our best in every race to make the Alpine colors shine at the highest level in motorsport, ”continued Rossi.
New car with a powerful V8 engine
The new Alpine A480 is based on a chassis from the French racing car manufacturer Oreca and has a 4,5-liter V8 engine from the British specialist Gibson. The tire partner of the Alpine Endurance Team is Michelin. For the promotion to the hypercar class, Alpine relies on parts of its longstanding staff. Frenchman Nicolas Lapierre can already look back on two LMP2 World Championship titles for Alpine (2016 and 2019) and three LMP2 class wins for the team at the 24 Hours of Le Mans (2016, 2018 and 2019), two of them with André Negrão from Brazil as a partner. Also newcomer Matthieu Vaxivière from France can already show four starts at Le Mans. The endurance classic will once again be the highlight of the FIA World Endurance Championship this year.
