The Alpine F1 Team wants to build on the good performance of the Renault Equipe with three podium finishes in 2021. In addition to the two-time world champion Fernando Alonso, the Frenchman Esteban Ocon climbs into the cockpit of the new A521 racing car. As a tribute to the team's French roots, the new monoposto shines in the colors of the French tricolor blue, white and red. The season starts on March 28th in Bahrain.

"Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, the introduction of the new regulations was postponed to 2022 and a significant part of the development was frozen, so that this season represents an extension of the 2020 season, so to speak”Says Marcin Budkowski, Executive Director Alpine. "Since the regulations have only changed slightly, we don't expect too big changes in the field. However, the gaps in midfield are so small that we expect close fights on every track. We hope that we can build on the momentum of the second half of 2020 when we took three podiums and take the momentum into the new season."

New A521 with Renault genes

Alpine is starting with the new A521, which is based on the RS 20 racing car of the Renault F1 Team and has been adapted to the current FIA regulations. Among other things, the engineers increased the weight of the vehicle to 749 kilograms and adapted the aerodynamics to the new specifications in order to reduce downforce. The new Renault E-TECH 20B drive unit provides over 950 hp.

The two-time F1 world champion Fernando Alonso from Spain and the Frenchman Esteban Ocon take the wheel as drivers. They are supported by test driver Guanyu Zhou from China. The new Racing Director is Davide Brivio.

With 23 races, this year's Formula 1 series is the longest season to date. Renault has continued its involvement in the premier class of racing with the Alpine F2021 Team since 1. On the basis of the Renaulution strategic plan, Alpine will bundle the motorsport activities of the Renault Group.
