Perfectly rounded - AC Schnitzer revamps the BMW i8

AC Schnitzer is relaunching the plug-in hybrid BMW i8! As one of the first tuners, the company had already developed the future-oriented I8, a body kit, aluminum rims and lowering, as well as various changes for the interior (we reported several times). And now for the year 2017 the body kit has been subtly revised, for the presentation a breathtaking specimen with a special film in "Inferno Red Chrome“Put on in-house AC1 - 21 incher. In contrast to the completely crazy Energy Motorsport Bodykit about which we only yesterday reported But the Aachner tuner is much more discreet, which in Europe, and especially in Germany, is sure to be much more popular. AC Schnitzer has also decided to manufacture all new aerodynamic parts from high-quality carbon and especially the presentation vehicle, with its eye-catching foiling, looks perfectly modified with the new accessories without exaggerating. The body kit consists of front spoiler elements in front, additional side skirts, a striking rear wing, an insert on the bonnet, side wing elements on the bumper, new air outlets front and rear and a sporty rear diffuser.

As already mentioned, all parts are made of high-quality carbon and even details such as the door handle shells, the mirror covers or the front grille were made from the ultra-light material. The AC8 BiColor (or anthracite variant) alloy wheels in the dimensions 1 x 8,5 inches at the front and 21 x 9,5 inches at the rear were specially developed for the i21 and fitted with tires in 245 & 285 format. In conjunction with a subtle lowering of 25 mm at the front & 20 mm at the rear, the new suspension set-up ensures that the 362 PS & 580 NM hybrid can be moved even more sportily. As already mentioned, the "Inferno Red Chrome" foiling is particularly successful all around and it also ensures that the high-quality aerodynamic parts made of carbon look so good. By the way, the BMW i8 is driven on the front axle by an electric motor with 96 kW / 131 PS & 250 Nm torque.

no performance increase available

The rear axle, on the other hand, is powered by a newly developed 1,5-liter three-cylinder petrol engine with 170 kW / 231 hp at 5.800 rpm and a maximum of 320 Nm at 3.700 rpm. Together, this results in a system performance of 362 PS & 580 Nm which ensure that the i8 accelerates from 4,4 to 0 km / h in 100 seconds (purely electric 4,5 seconds) and a maximum speed of electronically governed 250 km / h (electric 120 km / h) reached. Optimally, according to BMW, the plug-in hybrid is content with only 2,1 liters of petrol per 100 kilometers when driving gently, which means CO2 emissions of just 49 g / km.
