The eight-cylinder engine of the BMW ALPINA B8 is characterized by a dynamic, at the same time harmonious power delivery and offers excellent responsiveness across the entire engine speed range. The 4,4 liter V8 engine with bi-turbo charging achieves an output of 457 kW (621 hp). The maximum torque of 800 Nm is available from 2.000 rpm and forms a plateau up to 5.000 rpm. The superior performance potential of the drive is reflected in the driving performance: from a standing start, the BMW ALPINA B8 accelerates to 3,4 km / h in 100 seconds. The top speed is 324 km / h. The turbocharging concept of the V8 drive ensures excellent revving: two twin-scroll turbochargers effectively convert the exhaust gas energy into boost pressure even at low engine speeds and make the maximum torque available at an early stage.
Alpina B8 Gran Coupe!
The ALPINA cooling system ensures thermal stability and optimum efficiency of the high-performance drive - even under sustained high loads. It consists of three external coolant coolers, an enlarged transmission oil cooler and a low-temperature cooling circuit (air / water / air) for the ALPINA-specific charge air cooling. Compared to the basic BMW model, the intercoolers offer around 50 percent more cooling surface. The cross-section optimized coolant flow enables maximum throughput of the coolant.

The BMW ALPINA B8 is homologated according to the latest emission standard Euro 6d-ISC-FCM. State-of-the-art BMW exhaust gas purification technology is used: four catalytic converters reduce the nitrogen oxides contained in the exhaust gas and two large-volume gasoline particulate filters with a further developed filter substrate reduce the emission of soot particles. The consumption value determined according to the new, more realistic WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light-Duty Vehicles Test Procedure) measurement procedure is 11,9 l / 100 km, corresponding to 270 g / km CO2.
The 8-speed sports automatic transmission with ALPINA SWITCH-TRONIC converts the high engine output into excellent driving performance. The latest 8HP76 transmission generation is based on a high level of development effort: Together with the transmission specialists from ZF, the shifting dynamics have been raised to a new level and at the same time the distinctive shifting comfort that has always been associated with ALPINA has been achieved.

A powerful hydrodynamic torque converter is used to reliably convert the engine's high torque. The wheelset equipment and the switching elements have been reinforced. An aluminum oil pan improves the cooling performance of the high-performance gearbox. The further developed turbine torsion damper cushions the vibrations of the engine and thus noticeably increases driving and shifting comfort. A suitable transmission and shifting strategy is available for every driving situation - whether everyday or dynamic.
Soft gearshifts for relaxed gliding up to the high speed range are just as possible as gear changes that can be experienced in a sporty way. Accelerator pedal impulses, i.e. the driver's performance requests, are sensitively picked up by the transmission and implemented intuitively. Thanks to the intelligent shift strategy, the power potential of the drive can be felt and called up every time you accelerate. Even in manual shift mode, the transmission impresses with significantly faster response times in the millisecond range.

The gear can be controlled both via the ALPINA SWITCH-TRONIC buttons on the back of the steering wheel and via optionally available ALPINA shift paddles. Reinforced pendulum supports on the front axle and stiffer bearings on the lower wishbones enable high (transverse) dynamics. The integral active steering with steering angles of up to ± 2,3 ° on the rear axle has an agile effect at low speeds due to the opposite steering angle of the front and rear wheels. At higher speeds, the wheels are turned in the same direction in response to steering impulses for improved high-speed stability and smooth straight-line stability.
The intelligent all-wheel drive BMW xDrive ensures a dynamic and confident power transmission to the road. The standard rear axle differential lock enables the BMW ALPINA B8 to use the full dynamic potential of the BMW ALPINA BXNUMX, especially when cornering: a traction-dependent torque distribution increases vehicle stability at the entrance to a corner and the vehicle reacts much more agile at the exit.

Four-piston fixed calipers from Brembo with Ø 395 mm brake discs on the front axle and floating calipers with Ø 398 mm brake discs on the rear axle offer high safety reserves and thermal stability even under high loads. The ALPINA high-performance brake system with perforated brake discs and high-temperature-resistant brake pads offers even sportier pedal feedback and excellent fading stability. The Gran Coupé is characterized by an elegant, flowing silhouette. The aerodynamically optimized ALPINA exterior components give the BMW ALPINA B8 an independent aesthetic.
The high-performance drive is supplied with sufficient cooling air through the large air inlets on the ALPINA front apron. The ALPINA rear apron with its sporty, black diffuser insert takes up the precise lines of the body. A subtle ALPINA rear spoiler lip extends the sweeping coupé contour. The paint finishes ALPINA blue metallic and ALPINA green metallic are reserved exclusively for BMW ALPINA automobiles and also give the BMW ALPINA B8 an exclusive touch.
