Johannesburg-based Armormax has unveiled a new armored vehicle. And this time it's a particularly practical one. Because Armormax has it VW Golf GTI (Mk8) used as the basis for a B4 protection conversion. And according to Armormax, this is the world's first armored Mk 8 GTI. Such a vehicle starts at €92.350 and the white-painted example in the video is even a slightly better equipped variant at €97.340. In other words, at the base price of the GTI (in South Africa, the Jacara Edition costs €39.400) is joined by more than double (the GTI starts at around €41.000). The note "B4" describes the industry standard designation for protection against handguns. Most violent crimes in South Africa, including car thefts, are committed with handguns.

The B4 protection installed by Armormax withstands the bullets of a .357 Magnum, a .44 Magnum and 9×19 mm Parabellum cartridges. By the way, the top model from Armormax is a B7 conversion, which is even supposed to protect against the 7,62×51 ammunition used by the NATO armed forces. According to Armormax, the additional weight due to the armor should be less than 180 kilograms, which also includes safety glass for the windows and sunroof. All doors, panels, pillars, the rear seats and the tailgate are also provided with a light plastic armor. And the icing on the cake is a push-to-talk intercom.
