The introduction of the third generation (F40), which began in 2019, marked a radical change in the 1 Series' architecture, with the transition to the unpopular front-wheel drive. In summary it can be said that BMW has stopped producing the 1 Series convertibles with the completion of the first generation (E88). The demand for compact, sporty convertibles is now being driven by the 2 series which follows in the footsteps of the 1 Series convertible and continues the tradition of open driving pleasure in a compact format in a modern and technologically advanced package.
