A dream in yellow! In the video below you can see a BMW 850 CSi (E31). But not just any! It is one of only 14 Dakar yellow 850 CSi in total. The first generation of the BMW 8 Series Coupé is a classic and was built from 1989 to 1999. Since then, the CSi in particular has mutated into a sought-after collector's item. Compared to the current 8-series, which BMW launched over 20 years later, the generation E31 looks even more exotic as we find it. Especially as the BMW Motorsport top model 850 CSi with a dreamy V12 under the hood. Between 1992 and 1996 only a total of 1510 BMW 850 CSi models were built.

Rear axle steering not in the USA

The majority (1125 pieces) was the left-hand drive EU version. And the difference? The European cars had better equipment such as the rear axle steering AHK (aactive rear axle kinematics) that you didn't even get in the US for an extra charge. The vehicle from the video shows itself with black leather interior and noble wooden trims and, typically 850 CSi, of course with 6-speed manual transmission. And then there is the extremely rare color combination Dakar Yellow / Black, which comes into its own due to the chic original, 17-inch five-spoke rims in silver.

5,6-liter V12 engine in the 850 CSi

At that time, 850 CSi buyers could choose between two different 17-inch rims and from the beginning of 1995 there were even 18-inch models for the high-tech coupe from Munich. However, the 5,6-liter V12 (internally called S70), which is based on the five-liter V12 (M70) from the 850 Ci, was always installed. In the 850 CSI there was an increase in displacement and further modifications and so the BMW Motorsport department achieved an output of an impressive 300 hp and 450 Nm instead of 381 hp and 550 Nm torque. Although there was never a "real" M8 in series, the 850 CSI could have passed as this after the decision had been made M8 prototype with S70-V12 and 550 PS not to build.
