Hybrid with 544 hp: the new Bentley Flying Spur V6!

Bentley Motors today announced details of the latest luxury model as the company continues its electrification journey. The newly introduced Flying Spur Hybrid builds on the success of the third Flying Spur generation. An extremely innovative drive system is used, making the Bentley the most environmentally friendly to date. With the introduction of the Flying Spur Hybrid, a model family of Bentley hybrid vehicles is created for the first time. This underscores Bentley's promise of the Beyond100 strategy, namely to become a consistently climate-neutral company and the world's leading provider of sustainable luxury mobility.

The latest offshoot in Bentley's new hybrid model range shows that hybridization does not necessarily have to go hand in hand with compromises in terms of luxury and performance. A combination of combustion engine and electric motor that is not noticeable to the driver enables cultivated sovereignty, regardless of driving mode and style.

The new drive train combines a 2,9-liter V6 petrol engine with a modern electric motor and delivers a total of 544 hp and 750 Nm of torque - an increase of 95 hp compared to the Bentayga Hybrid. This makes the new Flying Spur the most economical Bentley of all time and can cover over 700 km with a full tank.

Sprint to 100 km / h in 4,3 seconds

Thanks to high power reserves, excellent torque and direct throttle response, the latest hybrid model is in no way inferior to the Flying Spur V8 in terms of acceleration and accelerates to 100 km / h in 4,3 seconds. With the new drive, a significant reduction in fuel consumption is achieved. At the same time, the authentic Bentley character of effortless, cultivated power delivery is retained. The new Flying Spur has a leading portfolio of intelligent and intuitive equipment in its segment, which is tailored to the driver and passengers. With the Flying Spur Hybrid, My Battery Charge, My Car Statistics and My Cabin Comfort are now also part of the vehicle networking services.

In order to give the driver even more feedback, the instruments show when the vehicle is driving purely electrically, when regeneration takes place when decelerating and when the combustion engine is in use.

In the interior, the switch for the automatic start-stop has been replaced by a control element for the three electric driving modes - EV Drive, Hybrid and Hold. This allows the driver to control battery usage while driving. The EV Drive mode (purely electric driving mode) is immediately ready when switched on and ensures the greatest possible purely electric driving experience. Just the thing for city traffic and shorter journeys.

In addition, the energy flow can be displayed on the infotainment screen. Statistics can be viewed there and the timers for charging the vehicle can be set. Further information on electrical operation is available via the instrument panel, the head-up display and the central screen, including information on range, battery level and charge.

On the outside, the Flying Spur Hybrid differs among other things through a "Hybrid" emblem on the front fender, four oval tailpipes and a concealed universal charging socket on the rear left fender.

Environmentally oriented drive train

The combination of a highly efficient engine and a modern electric motor offers the same flexibility and suitability for everyday use as the W12 and V8 engines offered today. It ensures a dynamic, inspiring and extremely cultivated driving experience.

The new 2,9-liter V6 engine, which is constructed similarly to the 4,0-liter V8, develops 416 hp and achieves 550 Nm of torque at up to 5650 rpm. The twin-scroll turbochargers and the main catalytic converters are located in the V of the engine. The fuel injection nozzles and spark plugs are centrally located in the combustion chamber to ensure optimal spray patterns and combustion paths, and the camshafts are variable by up to 50 degrees. The engine has one Specific output of just under 150 hp and thus even surpasses that of the Flying Spur V8.

The modern electric motor is located between the gearbox and the combustion engine and has an output of up to 136 hp - with a torque of up to 400 Nm. This is immediately provided in full by the permanent magnet synchronous motor, which ensures noiseless acceleration from a standstill. Due to the high torque that is directly available, there is no longer any noticeable turbo lag.

The electric motor is powered by a lithium-ion battery with 14,1 kWh and can be fully charged in just two and a half hours (region-specific). The power electronics convert the energy stored in the high-voltage battery and thus supply the electric motor or feed it into the existing 12-volt infrastructure of the vehicle. The combined drive accelerates the Flying Spur Hybrid from 4,3 to 0 km / h in 100 seconds (Flying Spur V8: 4,1 seconds) and enables a top speed of 285 km / h. The reduced CO2 values and the lower consumption values, which have yet to be confirmed, make the powertrain the most environmentally friendly of the entire model range.

Sophisticated integration of the latest technology

The interior of the Flying Spur is a successful combination of the latest integrated technologies, beautiful materials and design skills. Added to this are the equipment features of a plug-in hybrid vehicle. A special button enables the control of the three e-driving modes - EV Drive, Hybrid and Hold. The driver can regulate the battery usage manually while driving - or leave this to the automatic control of the vehicle:

  • EV DRIVE - is engaged when the vehicle is switched on and ensures the best possible all-electric driving experience. Just the thing for city traffic and shorter journeys.
  • HYBRID - uses data from the intelligent navigation system to maximize the efficiency and range of the vehicle. This mode is suitable for longer journeys. He uses the predictive E-mode and the overrun mode and follows the instructions from the navigation system. When you enter a destination, the vehicle automatically selects the correct driving mode for each individual section of the journey. It constantly calculates the most efficient use of the battery charge and stores electrical energy for sections of the journey where it is most useful - for example when reaching the city. The system uses up all of the stored energy by the time it arrives at its destination, thereby maximizing overall efficiency.
  • HOLD - creates a balance between the combustion engine and the electric drive in order to maintain the battery charge for later use and to save electrical energy. This is the standard setting in the Sport driving mode; it enables a consistently high additional output and energy recovery.

The Flying Spur Hybrid is delivered with all the cables required for the respective region. The vehicle can easily be charged at home or at high-voltage charging points at work or in public parking lots. In addition to the standard equipment, customers can also order a Bentley wallbox, which is available as an option at no extra charge. The attractive solution contains the charging unit and storage options for the charging cables.

Extended services for vehicle networking

The Flying Spur Hybrid is equipped with a leading portfolio of intelligent and intuitive equipment in its segment, which is tailored to the driver and the passengers. With an integrated SIM card, the My Bentley networking services can be used without customers having to provide their own data connection. “My Bentley” is a constantly evolving package with which customers can control numerous vehicle functions on board or remotely via an exclusive app for Apple iOS and Android.
