The BMW M135i xDrive (F40) - now with a technology upgrade!

Munich. BMW is sharpening the racing-inspired characteristics of the four-cylinder top athlete in the premium compact segment. Precisely modified chassis components help the BMW M135i xDrive to achieve noticeably optimized performance properties. In addition, the emotional driving experience is intensified by a new sound tuning in the interior. More than ever, the impressive power of the 225 kW / 306 hp four-cylinder engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology in the BMW M135i xDrive can be used for a fascinatingly dynamic driving experience that is typical of BMW. The detailed further development of its model-specific chassis technology leads to an even better connection, which guarantees precisely controllable driving characteristics even in highly dynamic situations on the racetrack. Optimized traction enables a confident approach to the physical limits, especially in extremely sporty cornering.

More curve dynamics through optimized camber values, new bearings, and precisely coordinated suspension and damping systems.

On the front axle of the BMW M135i xDrive, the camber values ​​of the wheels have been increased in order to optimize the absorption of lateral forces during sporty cornering. In addition, the wishbones of the front suspension are now connected via a new hydraulic mount. The longitudinal and wishbone bearings on the rear axle have also been revised. At the same time, the suspension and damping systems were re-tuned. This results in a noticeably improved roll behavior in corners, from which the binding steering feel also benefits in a sporty, ambitious driving style.

With the latest modifications, the profile of the BMW M135i xDrive, which is geared towards typical BMW driving pleasure, has been further sharpened. Its chassis technology, together with the extremely sporty performance characteristics of the engine and the intelligent all-wheel drive BMW xDrive, form an ideally composed overall package for fascinating performance. The compact BMW M automobile is equipped as standard with a wheel slip limiter close to the actuator, which is integrated in the engine control unit. The signal paths that are significantly shortened as a result enable traction to be controlled ten times faster than conventional systems when starting off, on slippery surfaces and when cornering dynamically.

In addition, the BMW M135i xDrive has a mechanical differential lock on the front axle. It is integrated into the standard 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission and also promotes traction and driving stability as well as agility and cornering dynamics. With a locking effect of 36 percent when pulling and 26 percent when pushing, it ensures that additional torque is transferred to the front wheel, which has better traction, if necessary. In addition to the functions of Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), the BMW M135i xDrive is also equipped with Performance Control, which optimizes self-steering behavior through targeted braking interventions.

The other components of the standard equipment of the BMW M135i xDrive include the model-specific M sports steering and the particularly powerful M sports braking system. The compact sports car is also available ex works with 18-inch M light alloy wheels. 19-inch light alloy wheels are optionally available in different versions.

Intense sound experience in the interior.

The two-sided exhaust system supports the power delivery of the four-cylinder engine through reduced counter pressure and also generates a characteristic drive sound. The distinctive and emotionally charged sound is also transmitted into the interior and amplified in a targeted manner via the loudspeakers of the audio system.

In its new form, the development of the sound that is perceptible to the vehicle occupants reflects the characteristic four-cylinder sound of a BMW M automobile even more authentically. The direct reactions to every movement of the accelerator pedal are translated into corresponding acoustic signals. From the powerful build-up of torque when accelerating to the load drop in overrun, the operating status of the drive can be traced at any time. In addition, the acoustic experience in the interior is enriched by a model-specific sound staging when the engine is started.

Expressive appearance thanks to new paintwork.

In parallel to the sharpened performance characteristics, the individual character of the BMW M135i xDrive is underlined with a new selection of particularly expressive paint finishes. At the BMW Group plant in Leipzig, where the compact model is produced, BMW Individual paintwork and special customer requests can also be integrated into the production process from now on. The special colors require additional service and support with an increased scope of manual processes. For this purpose, an existing paint shop was converted and the number of employees increased by ten.

The BMW Individual paintwork brings out the modern design language and the specific design features of the top athlete even more intensely. The range of exterior colors for the BMW M135i xDrive is being expanded, for example, to include the M paintwork Sao Paulo yellow uni as well as the variants Frozen Orange metallic and Frozen Pure Gray.
