An exclusive supercar the likes of which has never been seen before: The BRABUS 800 Adventure XLP is celebrating its world premiere at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show. The pickups of the model year 2020 are offered in an exclusive limited "First Edition". Based on the Mercedes-AMG G 63, the engineers, technicians and designers at BRABUS developed a high-performance pickup with outstanding off-road capability, which is achieved by a newly designed BRABUS special chassis with portal axles. This achieves a ground clearance of 49 centimetres. The look of the extraordinary vehicle, which is built by BRABUS in small series, is characterized not only by the BRABUS WIDESTAR widebody version, but also by the newly designed loading area. The tailor-made rear module made of steel has side walls made of high-strength, but still very light carbon.

BRABUS 800 PowerXtra + specification

The drive is the 4.0 liter V8 biturbo in BRABUS 800 PowerXtra + specification with 588 kW / 800 hp and 1000 Nm of torque. This catapults the BRABUS 800 Adventure XLP from 4,8 – 0 km/h in just 100 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 22 km/h due to the higher center of gravity and the 210-inch all-terrain tires. The show car in Geneva has a special paint finish in ROCKET silver matt and a BRABUS fine leather interior in burned oak. The loading area of the show car for the Geneva Motor Show 2020 accommodates a take-off and landing module for a wingcopter. This high-end drone, which can reach speeds of up to 240 km/h, can safely and autonomously transport relief supplies and rescue equipment over distances of up to 120 kilometers to sections of the terrain that even this extremely all-terrain vehicle could not reach.

Extravagant supercars have been the domain of BRABUS for more than four decades. The BRABUS 800 Adventure XLP is now an exclusive high-performance pickup that continues the tradition of BRABUS as a vehicle manufacturer accredited by the Federal Motor Transport Authority in Flensburg. The pickup body conversion was a major challenge for the BRABUS development team. To adapt a generously dimensioned loading area behind the unchanged spacious passenger cabin of the G-Class, the wheelbase was first extended by 50 centimeters. The necessary design calculations were carried out by the BRABUS engineers using the latest design and construction software. A special module for the steel ladder frame of the off-road vehicle was developed in accordance with these requirements. The overall length is 5,31 meters, which is 68,9 centimeters more than a standard G 63 without a spare wheel at the rear.

Flexi-teak planking related to yacht building

CSP, the business unit of the BRABUS Group, which deals with the development and manufacture of high-tech components made of composite materials, produces the carbon body parts required for this pickup conversion, such as the rear side walls, using the complex prepreg process. In addition, components such as the new rear wall for the driver's cab, which of course also has a heated rear window, parts of the loading area such as the robust floor, which is linked to the yacht construction with a Flexi-Teak planking, and the tailgate that opens to the side were removed for this conversion Made of sheet steel. This mix of materials results in an optimal combination of a perfect fit, maximum strength and high resilience. The vehicle exhibited in Geneva is also equipped with the optionally available roof rack on the passenger cabin and the wind deflector made of carbon fiber with four additional LED lights. The double, matt black bracket behind the cabin of the BRABUS 800 Adventure XLP not only contributes to the exciting pickup look of this supercar, but can also be used to securely lash items onto the loading area.

"First Edition" - optional special paintwork in ROCKET silver matt

In order to give the new BRABUS Supercar, which will be presented at the Geneva Motor Show 2020 as a "First Edition" with optional special paint in ROCKET Silver Matt, not only a spectacular off-road look but also excellent off-road mobility thanks to particularly high ground clearance and maximum interlocking of both axles, the BRABUS engineers and technicians converted the vehicle to a suspension with portal axles specially developed for this pickup. At the front, the new design for the G-Class was designed as independent wheel suspension. The components required for this, such as the completely new integral support and the various axle links, were produced using the latest CNC technology. The rigid axle principle of the base vehicle is retained at the rear. However, here too, numerous parts were redesigned for the portal axis principle and milled from high-strength aluminum. This includes not only a reinforced axle housing, but also all the handlebars of the suspension. This results in a sophisticated axle geometry that makes a decisive contribution to the outstanding off-road properties of the BRABUS pickup.

A tailor-made variant of the innovative BRABUS Ride Control coilover suspension was developed to match this, the damping of which was specially adapted to the greater ground clearance through the portal axles. The driver can control the BRABUS suspension in the cockpit via the standard DYNAMIC SELECT suspension adjustment of the current Mercedes G-Class. This means that you can choose between different setups not only for the chassis, but also for the drive, steering and assistance systems. In addition, the titanium-coated BRABUS aluminum chassis can be adjusted in height.

Pirelli Scorpion ATR all-terrain tires

The chassis conversion also includes conversion to the new BRABUS Monoblock HD wheels, which were specially designed for the portal axles with eight-hole connections. In size 9.5Jx22, these light-alloy rims, which are particularly designed for maximum robustness, perfectly fill the space under the visible carbon fender flares with Pirelli Scorpion ATR all-terrain tires of size 325/55 R 22. Carbon is clearly used for the production of numerous other body elements. This includes not only the BRABUS bonnet attachment with two power domes, but also the fender flares, which the BRABUS WIDESTAR wide version has adapted for the current Mercedes G-Class models and has also been fitted with visible carbon wheel arches. They make the supercar 11,6 centimeters wider than the base car. The side body strips, which were also made of visible carbon, add further sporty highlights. The WIDESTAR apron with large air intakes for the BRABUS 800 Adventure XLP was also adopted from this body modification. On request, it can also be ordered in a variant with a front contactor bar and winch with 4 kg of tractive force. The robust underride protection is also made of carbon, which is sealed with a high-gloss coating just like all other visible carbon components on this supercar.

Extended wheelbase on the BRABUS 800 Adventure XLP

The running boards, which have also been designed to be longer for the extended wheelbase of the BRABUS 800 Adventure XLP, make it easier to get in and out. LED lights have been integrated into the widenings, which enable a safe step even in the dark. As soon as a door handle is pulled or the central locking system is activated by keyless go when approaching the vehicle, the entry lights illuminate together with the BRABUS logos in the fender attachments behind the front extensions. Because of the high entry level, BRABUS also has special, electrically extending steps that make it easier and safer to get on and off the pickup. In addition to the tailgate, which reveals the origin of this supercar through a visible carbon panel with recessed BRABUS lettering, the WIDESTAR apron with indicated underride protection shapes the look of the pickup in the rear view. New on all doors and the tailgate are the door handles with BRABUS lettering inserted.

Loading area with a special module

The BRABUS 800 Adventure XLP, which will be exhibited at the Geneva Salon 2020, also houses an optionally available integrated special module on the loading area, which enables the take-off and landing of an electrically powered high-tech drone (eVTOL = electric vertical takeoff and landing). This up to 240 km / h fast, unmanned aerial vehicle from the German manufacturer Wingcopter was specially developed for the delivery of urgently needed relief supplies and special equipment in remote regions and in rough terrain. Like multicopters, the electrically powered drones can take off and land vertically in the smallest space, but can also fly long distances as efficiently and quickly as plane planes. This is made possible by Wingcopter's patented swivel rotor mechanism. It allows the rotors to be turned 90 degrees after reaching flight altitude and to transition to efficient, almost noiseless forward flight. The Wingcopter is designed for the transport of loads up to six kilograms in weight and can cover distances of up to 120 kilometers without changing the batteries - even in adverse weather conditions. In a wide variety of emergencies, the Wingcopter can, for example, deliver food, equipment or medication autonomously and quickly to accident or stray people or provide rescue teams with urgently needed salvage material. This means that gorges or mountain regions can also be reached that would not be accessible even with this extremely off-road BRABUS all-wheel drive pickup. For this technology, Wingcopter was awarded the International Prize of German Aviation and the SDGs Spotlight Prize of the Japanese NTT DATA Open Innovation Challenge 2020.

BRABUS 800 PowerXtra + performance upgrade

Huge - BRABUS 800 Adventure XLP Mercedes G63 AMG

The extraordinary body is joined by one of the most powerful drives in the world in an off-roader: The 4.0 liter V8 biturbo of the current G 63 AMG was extensively modified by the BRABUS engine engineers. The BRABUS 800 PowerXtra + Performance Upgrade includes extensive interventions in the engine periphery: For example, the two series loaders are replaced by two newly configured BRABUS high-performance turbos, which in addition to a larger compressor unit also have a modified fuselage group with reinforced axial bearings. They produce a maximum boost pressure of 1,6 bar. To make the tuned eight-cylinder even more acoustically exciting, BRABUS Boost Xtra, a sound kit for the bypass valve, was developed. The turbocharged engine thus produces a clearly audible “blow-off” blow-off sound when the driver releases the accelerator. The BRABUS high-performance exhaust system naturally also contributes to the acoustic fascination. With its flap control, it has an integrated sound management system, which enables a variable sound between discrete "Coming Home" mode or a sporty V8 sound. With two tailpipes on the left and right in front of the rear wheels, which can be chosen either in normal or black chrome, the exhaust system made of stainless steel also sets visually exciting accents.

588 kW / 800 PS and 1.000 NM torque

The larger turbos are joined by new mappings for injection, boost pressure control and ignition in this engine conversion. They are fed into the electronic engine management via the BRABUS PowerXtra module. As the type designation BRABUS 800 Adventure XLP already reveals, the peak performance of the biturbo machine increases to 588 kW / 800 PS at 6 rpm. Even more important for the sovereign power delivery of the pickup is the maximum torque of 600 Nm with only 1.000 tours. With this engine, the BRABUS 3 Adventure XLP becomes one of the most powerful pickups in the world: from a standing start, the supercar with a loading area catapults to 600 km / h in just 800 seconds. The top speed is electronically 4,8 km due to the all-terrain tires / h limited. The nine-speed automatic transmission can also be shifted manually using the ergonomically shaped BRABUS RACE aluminum shift paddles on the steering wheel. The revised drive also includes a special cardan shaft, which was necessary due to the extended wheelbase.

The show car for the Geneva Motor Show 2020 is part of the limited “First Edition”. These pickups are lined with the finest leather, which contrasts with the optional outer skin in ROCKET silver matt by the choice of the color Burned Oak. The center panels of the seats are quilted in a shell herb design and perforated to the millimeter. Some parts such as the headlining were upholstered with black Alcantara. For the other BRABUS 800 Adventure XLP pickups, the customer can have the interior up to the last detail upholstered in practically any desired color and with a wide variety of upholstery designs. Accentuated sporty accents in the cockpit are set with tailor-made aluminum components such as pedals, door locking pins and the ergonomically shaped shift paddles on the steering wheel.
