Ferrari 250 GT Drogo Breadvan Homage by Niels van Roij Design

Have you ever heard of the Ferrari 250 GT SWB "Breadvan"? This is a closed racing car that Giotto Bizzarrini made for the Venetian motorsport team in 1962 Scuderia Serenissima made. But only once! Because the 250 GT SWB with the chassis number 2819GT is absolutely unique. Technically, it is something like a special version of the 250 GT Berlinetta SWB, but not as part of the official Ferrari model range. The Italians have called it by the British press "breadvan“Is the title of the athlete who has not been officially recognized even for decades. It got the nickname because of its unusual shape. Unfortunately, the sports car was never able to achieve victories in various races. However, the breadvan has become a legend. And vehicle designer Niels van Roij Design called up the legend last year and painstakingly recreated it.

Since then there has been another “bread trolley” or “bread combination”! And of course it also has the angular comb-like structure with it. Niels van Roij Design under the chief designer Niels has chosen a Ferrari 550 Maranello as the base, which is particularly close to the base of the old 12 GT with a thick V250 under the long bonnet and rear-wheel drive. The 550 Maranello came under the saw and was painstakingly converted by van Roij. Every body part had to be replaced and everything is new even on the front end. Nevertheless, the extreme upside-down with the eye-catching tear-off rear does not mean that the essence of the 550 Maranello has disappeared. The vehicle was created as a breadvan homage at the request of a Ferrari driver and is also a one-off. For van Roij, it was a particularly complex task to bring the legendary original into a contemporary design.

After all, he only wanted himself from the original to inspire and don't just make a copy. While the vehicle was being manufactured, the designer regularly shared the work steps with his subscribers on the various social media channels. Whether painting, body construction or the first sketches, everything was recorded. This openness is definitely exceptional in automotive design. But for those who are interested, it is a great opportunity to watch the creation of a unique item. The car is currently painted and most of the interior elements are finished. And of course the interior of the Breadvan Hommage is tailor-made. Only the best materials are used and everything is made by hand. From the finest Italian leather to the color of the dials in the dashboard, everything was only created in close consultation with the customer.

chic Alcantara on the seats

Apparently he wanted Alcantara on the seats, aluminum on the doors, very special instruments and the silhouette of the vehicle on the headrests. He wanted an interior that absolutely matches the exterior design. On the other hand, for example, the factory sports seats with carbon cladding should also be retained. Countless details such as the handmade aluminum buttons, the seat covers with blue Alcantara with inspiration from the racing car colors of the 60s and the completely removed center console with the chic gear lever make the interior at least as exclusive as the exterior.
